    TomasBj's wip, sketches, studies - c&c welcome

    0
    Hey guys and girls!

So I've doing the Start! and now Level Up studies for some time. I also have posted my finished work in this thread: http://www.conceptart.org/forums/sho...sBj?highlight=. From which this thumbnail picture is from (as it's my best work to date I think).

I'm not a big sketcher, but I decided to try it more. I will be posting WIP of personal work and probably some LevelUp studies. All comments and critique greatly welcome.
I'm self taught and been doing this digital painting stuff for about a year now.

Working full time and having a family with two kids. I hope I can keep this going though.

    LevelUp comp 1.2 study WIP

So here's my LevelUp composition 1.2 study WIP. I've spent around hours painting it so far and noodling all those ornaments and folds have made me really question whether this was a good choice ;-). I love the painting by Geromé anyway and I know this one is almost done.

Here's a personal WIP. I promised to paint my wife these flowers, normally I'm more of a dark fantasy type of a guy . Doing it first in b&w and adding color later.

This has been a long project, so here's the version before starting level up:

Here's after starting Level Up. I think I've improved the composition and values. Although both of these are really rough. I'm going for a really painterly look.

I'm working on this in with very limited time, but hopefully I'll finish it during the summer.

All critique and comments greatly appreciated!

Ah good to see you have a sketchbook now Tomas. Fantastic start, those flowers are beautiful I'm sure your wife will absolutely love them. If she doesn't, divorce her

Hahah Thanks Bri! Those are still at sketching/thumbnail stage, which reminds me that I should put some time into them. I'll try to keep this updated and start sketching more. Your sketchbook is rocking so that sets a high standard.

So here's my study for the comp 1.2. Maybe going to do a bit of value adjustment based on feedback from Jason.

Here's the next iteration of my flower still life. I now this type of stuff is not the most exiting, but all feedback is really appreciated.

I'm thinking its pretty much finished. What I'm going to experiment on is using a canvas surface texture and some impasto strokes with painter...

I agree, amazing stuff here Tomas. That piece on the top looks to polished and finished. Really, really good work man. And comp 1.2 study *shiver* I fear that one.

Thanks! Kids and work outside the art field definitely make things harder. I'm regretting I didn't start this younger. Or rather that I stopped.

Here's a couple of fairly quick low saturation color studies for Level Up.

The studies are looking tubular. I can't wait to see more of the dreamscape.

Thanks Misty! I haven't worked on the dreamscape for a while. I'm trying to crank out the six color&light studies first and then concentrate on the dreamscapes. Hopefully I'll be working on it next week.

Thanks! I'm dying to get to it. However I'm obsessing to complete the LevelUp Color&Light studies first. Probably going to work on this and couple of other thumbnails in the next few days.

    More color studies...

I bought a Cintique Companion and have been working on these on vacation... Great machine though I hate Win8.

Done with the color studies (at least for now... maybe doing some corrections if need be). Finally I picked up the demon dreamscape... Here's the next iteration. What do you think?
