    Calarts 2015?

Is anyone planning on applying, specifically character animation?
I'm having a hard time choosing what to do with the sketchbook, I'm so used to just using ballpoint pen on paper. Everyone else has a lot of colors and other materials involved, so I tried using colored pencil and acrylic, it didn't turn out that bad but it's not what I usually do.

Anyways I didn't see a thread for calarts recently, so here it is

I'm no expert at drawing by any means. But maybe it would be smart to use the sketchbook to experiment as much as possible and push out of your comfort zone. Hope that helps!

I have been throwing the idea of applying around, but the tuition is what's holding me back.

But I've seen a lot of people use a sketchbook with thicker paper and use water colours for some pages, it looks awesome.

*raises hand* I plan on applying to CalArts for 2015.

I'm not really an expert on portfolios or have any knowledge on what CalArts looks for in a portfolio, but I say go for what you're best at. You can use colored pens if you're more comfortable with that. There are tons out there that sell colors other than the usual black, blue and red ones.

And as OdinPen mentioned, just try and experiment with other mediums, just to get the feel of them. You can choose to combine different mediums if you want, be as creative as you want to be. I mean, the point of the portfolio is to show them that you're capable of succeeding at CalArts. Plus imo, trying out different mediums and techniques is really fun. Maybe once you've got the hang of them, you'll grow to like them as well.
