COW #323: Epicenter of a Mass Parasitic Organism - VOTING!

-The epicenter is part of a massive network of parasitic organic material that spreads itself out over several miles if needed
-The organism is parasitic and feeds off of energy produced by the area it has taken over
-The entire parasite is fully stationary
-being very large and stationary it does need some kind of defense mechanism
-Optional: You may design maps, orthos, rooms, etc to showcase how all the different parts of the rest of the organism's looks and functions, this is a tall order so it is not required, but it is recommended to show some of what else is going on

Concept: Parasitus Rex
From: Commanding General/Special Forces for Parasite control.
To: U.N. Headquarters
It's become a fight for the ages, this organism has conquered the city and we're running out of options. We've tried every agent available to eradicate this organism, but the overwhelming consensus is that the more we throw at it, the more it grows out of control.
The current level of growth has spread to outlying cities, and the CoE believes that the (creature?) has the ability to drill and burrow its tentacles underground, they are currently attempting to map its true size through Seismograph and sonar technology.
At this point we believe we've located the hub, a giant fleshy mass which seems to have more details and differences in its physiology compared to previously found sites. Its hide has proven to be one of the toughest materials we've encountered, and our scientists are working diligently to ascertain its structure and chemical makeup.
At this stage it is believed that the the only way to destroy the epicenter is to deploy nuclear means. We have a few more tests to commit to, but the results so far have been fruitless.
This electricity absorbing creature starts out as a larvae that drifts in the universe protected by a leathery shell. Upon sensing planet with large amounts of electricity using its highly sensitive neurons it lands and finds a building to develop. As time goes on it begins to mature and spreads its vital parts and large tube like veins to spread across the area slowly infesting it and converting it into its outer body with the epicenter serving as its core. It uses acidic excretions found in thin layers of veins to protect the creature when it feels a threat is nearby.
Concept: Magma Tick
The Magma Tick is a massive creature when fully grown. Magma Ticks are often active in volcanic areas when juvenile, and can sometimes be found in the obsidian eggs spawned by their predecessors. The creature once fully matured will begin to siphon off magma from an active volcanic source and increase in size in a very rapid amount of time. Eventually once these titans have reached their greatest mass and span, they will anchor themselves into the sides of a volcano and await an eruption. They can often be dormant for centuries before the volcano finally explodes and sends their lava-born offspring into the sky to seed the world again.

Concept: Chemicalius Electronea
A mysterious parasite has attached itself to the generators of the Nuclear Waste Processing Center. It is believed to be feeding off of the electricity and radioactivity of the structure while growing in size. The creature produces a very strong molecular acid that it spits from it's tentacles. This creature is becoming hostile and difficult to control. Several experiments to eradicate the parasite are underway.

Originally small worm-like creatures exploited for their ability to produce electricity. When scientists conducted experiments to try increase its production of electricity, the creatures mutated, and merged to form a single writhing mass, which grew and absorbed anything organic in its path. In its early stages, its core vaguely resemble a dead tree with writhing worms for branches and roots(it probably still does). Hence the name wormtree.
Initial reports on the terraforming project on planet B5801-C proved promising. Plantlife sprung up quickly from the previously dead sphere, and wildlife was soon introduced from neighbouring worlds. Within a few cycles scientists reported extreme changes to the creatures released. One of the most disastrous was the tree-wyrm. No one is sure if the terraforming chemicals or the original planet's make-up is to blame. Whatever the case the usually benign wyrm seems unable to reach its adult form, foregoing the cocoon stage in favour of staying in larval form for its entire life. Instead of transforming into a quadrupedal herbivore, it continues to gorge and grow, sometimes gaining useless vestigial appendages of its adult stage. It soon flattens its tree, and upon loosing its fragile teeth, quickly spreads out for more food.

In the wake a of nuclear conflict and the pollution that followed, the waters of planet Ordahnus have become infested by mutated beings known by visiting members of humanity as the Daedalok. Though their numbers are few, the creatures are behemoths that nearly dwarf the sunken buildings they often cling to in the depths. An odd chimera of crustacean, mollusk, and cephalopod in appearance, the Daedalok fuel their ever-expanding network of growths and feeding tendrils with the residual radioactivity found in their environment. Their networks can span for miles swiftly after finding a permanent structure to settle within, as the radioactivity spurs cancer-like cellular growth. Due to their sedentary state, they are equipped to defend themselves with poisonous inks, powerful tendrils, and intimidating maws. At the end of a Daedalok's long life-cycle new young eat their way out of their parent's corpse. The mobile offspring then swim to a favorable permanent residence far from their progenitor's domain. It is estimated that, in time, the planet Ordahnus may yet be cleansed of its radioactive pollutants by the Daedalok; their fate thereafter an uncertainty.

Concept: Edi Essymbia
A massive organism that spans several acres. It's nucleus is comprised of what appears to be an egg like structure, that continuously saps energy in the area. What appears to be an embryo of some kind within the nucleus grows larger from within it's tough shell, it is uncertain what will happen if it manages to consume enough energy, but it most likely won't be good when it does.
Concept: The Worm Nest
The Worm Nest is, despite its name, actually one singular organism. The Worm Nest starts as a comparatively small invertibrate, about the size of a weasel- and spends about half of its life sitting in the sun, attempting to stave off starvation. Worm Nests feed off of radiation, and young worm nests generally have to rely on solar radiation until they can make it close enough to an ample supply- at which point they start growing at an alarming rate, overruning the entire area and venting toxic gasses to clear the area of obstruction, or resistance in the case of unwanted sentient retaliation. At full size, the worm nest looks like a large squishy mass with many tendrils- this is actually the Worm Nest's digestive organs, and the origin of its name, as the rest of the worm can traverse the "nest" through a multitude of holes and passages.
While the worm is dangerous due to the rapid spread and toxicity of the gasses it puts out as a result of the digestive process- it's fairly easy to kill, assuming you don't get crushed/pincered. Containment on the other hand is a nightmare, as one Worm Nest corpse can produce up to a million (oftentimes many more) pupa in a large radius.

anyways, no cuts this week...was a harder topic that was a bit out of the park compared to regular COW topics so I was nice this time.

Garanord: still not sure if these pics are supposed to be related in any way or of they are separate entries, as they are rendered in different styles and the anatomical comparisons are slightly different, but I did say supplementary images are allowed so I let it slide.
Summary: This was a tough round seeing as there was a bit of an environment involved with the creature designs, but I would've liked to see some people actually focus on the 'creature' aspect a bit more; as some entries, although looked organic, did not necessarily look like they were creatures. But as I stated this was a harder topic so I was extra nice for this round.
Lol, thanks Rob! I'm flattered. I think you're right about the addiction thing. I'll do my best to stay off the next one, although it is a dragon and I do develop a certain tick in my face when it comes to those particular beasties.
