What are some good ways to make money as an artist when the clientele is dry? I want to supplement my income while improving my creative skills and the only thing I can think of is caricatures. Ways to increase commission request are welcome as well; my network needs building.
You could try developing a portfolio for a different market that you're not currently addressing but could lead to access to more clients. Or you could develop products that can be sold independently, like t-shirts, prints, or tutorials for other artists.
Robbing someone at gunpoint.
You don't even have to be a very good artist for that!
Thanks for the comments, what's the best way to display my portfolio on ConceptArt?
You can use the 'post it to Gallery' feature and then click on My Gallery to get the url to stick in your signature.
why dont you try an interactive technique, say your in town being a busky pan, and get people to throw shoelaces dripping with paint at a canvas, (thats the physical challenge bit) then just get a sharpie, and put a couple of eyes on it at the right place, and there you go, instant creature feature.
Look for tatooers in your area that aren't tatoo artists (people who just tatoo the visuals on the skin and don't draw themselves) with a portfolio full of little illustrations and discuss a prices with them so they can add your designs to their catalogue. I don't really know how it works in the us but a few of my artists friends in France have done it as an odd job to get extra money. The tatooers will mostly be interested in fantasy visuals.
get the labradore up her.
