    Keeping .PDF file sizes down

    Hey!

These forums have changed a bit since my last visit, so if this is in the wrong bit - I'm fine with you shifting it.

I'm putting together mailers to send to previous and prospective illustration/design clients, namely, two portfolios - one for illustration and one for design.

The portfolios are multi-page .PDFs exported from InDesign, essentially composed of jpeg images and vector paths (layout shapes, lines and type generated within InDesign).

Has anyone got any tips and tricks about optimizing .PDFs for the purpose of slick emailing. Naturally, I don't want to compromise too much in the way of image quality, but at the same time I don't want to put clients off with a juggernaut sized attachment.

It's strange, I rarely need to optimize the work I send to clients (in my experience the opposite is true) - so this is something I'm a bit lost with. So far, my only suggestions have been to lower the quality of the .jpegs being used?

Reduce the resolution in output settings. You don't need 300 dpi export for something that is not intended for printing.

Purchase Acrobat X pro. There's a function where you can reduce the size of a pdf and dictate the quality.
