Concepts of alien vegetation for a friend's 3D project. These will be modeled and used to fill the landscape for a spaceship's flyby maneuver.

Characters for a scifi sim game. It turned out the dialogue will be different after all and the portraits not needed. These are miners of various factions.

Random blobby portrait, done on a very tired day I probably shouldn't have picked up the brush. I ended up including some Photoshop filters that are usually useless - although I do like my Glowing Edges filter. You can tell I tried to go after an Android Jones style but failed - I had neither the patience nor inspiration to pull it off.

    RPG Maker background pack

RPG maker is a site for resources to start games with - characters, tiles, items, music, whatever you need. I recently created a background pack for sidescrollers, and now it's up for sale:

Various sketches from my sketchbook, in acrylics, oil pastels, watercolour pencils, pen, and charcoal. Simple doodles, most of them done during game sessions.

Doing a speedpainting a day would be great, but I often lack the creativity when I finally find the time. But I have this large folders full of sketches from back when I wanted but couldn't, that turned out to work excellently for the purpose.

Based on a sketch for a character by Sharon Trausch, Cala.

    Finally, Ranarh

    Rhoenoak: Pat in Battle
I've been commissioned by John Enitsu, the author of the Rhoenoak novel series (Facebook.com/RhoenoakBookOfficial), to visually develop his fantasy/scifi world. This recent piece shows Pat, the pyrokinetic main protagonist, in battle with maruga, a shapeshifting adversary species.
I also made my first time-lapse view of the painting process. The swirly flame effects are mostly custom-made Apophysis 2.0 flame renders. Painting was done in Photoshop CS5 and Painter 12.

Using Painter's Mirror Painting again for black and white sketches. I feel like I'm going faceblind every few weeks, and need constant practice to keep up with even the most basic facial features.

    * Blue sketches with watercolour pencils and waterbrush, drawing from a fashion catalogue.
    * Graphite sketch with a 9B graphite stick, tissue paper, and 5B pencil for details.
    * Red sketches done over Reeves Rose Madder acrylic paint (that turned bad in its tube and therefore was used to liberally cover several pages. Reeves paints often misbehave in my observation. But, materials I want to get rid of are often a basis for bold experiments), with black and white pigmented ink pens (left) and charcoal (right).

Another graphite block sketch. For a long time, my issue with sketching was that pencils don't fill shapes easily, and the block fixes that. Details with 5B pencil.

Two more sketches over rose madder acrylic paint that I wanted to get rid of. Both with pigmented ink pens in black and white. You can see the paint ruined the paper in one spot; I tried to pry it apart with a letter-opener but was unsuccessful.
Both done during game sessions, hence the brainlessness

Gouache portraits, getting to grips with the medium when watered down; about twenty minutes each. The two-page portrait was soon abandoned because I lost interest in sticking to the model photograph I picked with its overly subtle light shifts.
