    1. Repin Academic Study

love this image - the weight of the guys body and soul seem to be pulling forwards and to the left, yet his gaze seems as if caught looking to the horizon.

    2. Gerome Market study.

1 hr - definitely going to revisit this and take it further - have been working with the image at playing card size and avoided zooming in so there's still a ton of image detail to dig into. Values are a little too high but it's a ton of fun to work from such an amazing painting.

will update with some analysis soon.

    3. Gerome - Woman at door

one more - had to abandon this about an hour in - kids need fed n watered. It's funny the moment you stop working on something all its faults leap out - another one the list for further refinement.

And I will get some notes typed up too - having too much fun painting tho...

Bierstadt study - 2 hrs, thought I'd challenge myself to try and accurately convey the depth of this scene with all the dappled light. Feel its getting there but the values on the shadows are still too high. Another one to go back to....

These are great to see. You are improving with each image, especially in your values. The latest is very well done. I have never seen that painting before so that was cool to see you sharing that too. Thanks.

One thing to try is to have both images open on your screen and look at the space between them. Let your eyes rest there. Then once your eyes relax, look in your peripheral vision and compare both images at the same time. Compare the biggest shapes of value. If you can get those big shapes spot on, the rest will fall into place. Do that a few times as you work and even use it as a way to check what you are seeing as your pupils will dilate differently when you look back and forth...so try to take both in at the same time more often.

    Keep up the great work.
