    Sketchr Nebulus

V busy on other platforms but i need a place to share my exercises.

looking to take my skills into professional illustration for video games based in Aus while balancing a fine art practice... Check out my patreon if youre interested in seeing that stuff

critique welcome! looking at getting into teaching so in that regard im very keen to get better, especially when it comes to digital techniques!

My main focus, for me personally, is speed - as the industry pays too little and has a huge demand for it.

This is what i have so far 2014, its mot much but i was also stricken with tendonitis which prohibits me from continuing many of the bad habits i enjoyed for so many years and has forced me to become more conservative in my drawing. More breaks, more rests, no more 8 hour drawing sessions or drawing day after day.

In fact if anyone has any advice for a fellow fricked up tendonitis freak feel free to message me here or post about it itt

Just a very simple study in clothing and different types of fantasy gear. i used something from reference just so that i could have something to go off. I find that using other illustratrs sketches in this way helps me to imprint the structures better. I have poor attention skills so without that kind of template i tend to veer off into something more creative, which i inevitably did in doing this anyway!

still it was a great exercise and feel free to copy this and use it in your own way, not that i think its that great, there's far better out there. It's pretty easy to do yourself if u just make a simple head shape, torso, legs etc and then copy/paste them again and again and come up with as many variations as you can.

I find myself exhausted by this kind of thing as it always causes me to want to work on something more ambitious.

    Hi Lyndsay Harper!

Thank you for commenting on my SB! You did great here, I especially like you clothing study! I think why don't you combine them into one or two characters for your own personal artwork (maybe a wild tribesman, oriental martial artist, etc). Or since it seems you're into fantasy stuff (like I do), why don't we do sketch trade if you feel it would be interesting? You draw me one character, and I'll draw you one too...

Btw did you use marker for this one?

so i can do allot in photoshop now (youd hope so afterusing it for over 10 years) but one thing i have never gotten good at is painting and im finally ready to tackle this.

Its not that i want to be able to make paintings in photoshop, tbh its more the fact i just want to be able to do it - i guess its more of a skill i feel i should have.

I like to work fast, anything that takes over a week to finish is definitely taking too long. Unless its an actual painting which takes time to dry, sessions and time to process.

Painting in photoshop seems to have become a staple in the industry, everyone does it and the majority of people can do it well.

Id really love to get paid, actual money, to work on games. Not AAA games that just repeat the same stuff over and over but weird games, fun games, games which focus on things most others dont.
( i am actually currently working on a title which is sort of why im starting to take this stuff more seriously again, i know that im good at concept art but if they ever want me to make some thing more painterly and realistic im going to struggle )

Im also REALLY keen on colour as ive sorta spent so much time in black and white i can do (almost*) anything with it and its boring

    *all hail mike mignola

Ideally i'd love to teach this stuff too.
ALSO im just gonna put this out here, if you live in sydney and you can draw as decent as me then please let me know i need more art companions

nice! really like those figure studies, especially the different level of rendering and focus on the hands. Its great to see you posting back to back the last few days.

thanks, theyre fairly easy, the hands were a warm up because i was feeling rusty. I would have done feet but they were a bit scary at the time so i'll try and tackle them again sometime
often i can draw an entire body really well and then get to the feet and it all goes wonky
