In addition to this, participants can choose to do an Optional "Material Type Study" Study, in any medium.
Exercise
The goal for this week is to do some simple material studies, and focus on the different types of materials.
"Types" is a bit of a broad term here, just make sure there is variation in your materials. Examples: hard, soft, matte, gloss, organic, metallic, reflective, translucent, dry, wet, or anything else you can come up with. You could for example choose glass, bone, and clay. and Having dissimilar materials provide a different challenge, which makes it interesting!
There are various ways in which you can present these studies. When working digitally people often practice texture on a simple ball or cube shape (examples here). You can also use this approach when working with a pencil. Or draw the entire object if that feels more comfortable for you.

A simple google search for 'material study' will yield plenty of results. You should also have plenty of different materials in your near surroundings. LINK - (Pinterest) Example of material studies by other artists. LINK - A different approach, in pencils.
