    vegu's studies

Registered quite a while ago, just recently got back into drawing after 1.5 year hiatus and figured now'd be a good time to start a sketchbook, been meaning to do it when i first set up the account. Tried to come up with a witty title for it and failed.

Critique and Advice are highly appreciated, and thanks in advance for anyone who takes the time to look through my stuff, comment or not.

Currently i am working through the Structure of Man course. I had actually done the whole thing before, but then stopped drawing altogether for one reason or another.

I hope this sketchbook helps me commit myself to the cause, just by adding accountability. I expect to be adding to it regularly (if not even daily), and if not shame on me

So currently i am learning the ratios of human anatomy, and usually when i learn a new bone, i will also render it out using references in order to solidify it in my mind (especially helpful in 3/4th view)

Sometime soon ill also start figure sketching (probably once i get to the muscles in the course), which has always been a source of high frustrations for me.

Here is where i am currently at: skull, chest cavity, scapula, spine, pelvis, femur.

Some of my studies of the past few days

Wish i had re-examined both sides of this before rendering it out, angle is all off on one side, making it look weird.

I need to dig for some of my drawings i did 1.5 years ago, to see where i left off. Maybe ill attach those to this thread later.

    thanks for reading!

I like the clean line work. I feel the spine is a bit too curved forward? Maybe it's the model your working with.

TamTam: it was drawn from mind, but you are correct, looked at some references, and while its curvature can differ mine looks like it has a bad case of scoliosis I fixed it on one of the side studies attached in this post (thanks, and good catch!)

So far it looks pretty good. Maybe the ribcage looks too short to me and you should make the patella (knee cap) bigger. If i may give you an advice, don't get too stuck with "textbook anatomy"(front,side,3/4 view), but draw various angles of the skeleon. It's the overall shape that matters, not every little dimple. https://sketchfab.com/models/3d77e95...94b5789cc1099f This is pretty useful, it's not super acurate, but you can grasp the idea of the overall shapes of bones.

Punkie: Thanks, that sounds like solid advice - a few years go google was working on some human anatomy map that had like all the muscles and bones at layers that you could toggle on and off, i need to check if thats still around.

more of the same again from mind

Trying different angles, nothing to crazy yet, except maybe the one on the right, which was a bit of an exercise in frustration

    also from mind

Did various studies on foot, humerus and ulna/radius today.

Also played around with some more sketching and posing of the skeleton structure (with the bones i studied so far) - pelvis
and foot giving me the most trouble at this point i think.

Except for the obvious dedication in learning the structure, I really like the value studies. I don't know why, but they feel very direct and honest to me. I apologize for my unconstructive comment.

Wow nice work! Your studies are, as others said, incredibly clean. All of this will pay off soon! Looking forward to your first finished piece of art! *follows*
