    noah123-Color and Light 1.1

Unfortunately I donīt have such a big mirror, so I had to paint myself from a photo reference Donīt know if thatīs against the rules though I hope someone can give me critiques so I can improve. It was hard to see how the shadows are. Took me plenty of time to paint it (I think about 8 or 9 hours). Next time I will buy a big mirror

man..this is coming along beautifully. if you cover up the features of the face and the hat, using a dark shape on another layer, and just look at the rest of the piece, you will see where you need to tweak i think. The features and cheekbones and skull structure is so wonderfully handled, as is the neck, but i think the rest needs to come up to that same level of quality. One thing i am noticing is that your edges are a bit sharp in places..or too similar...like on the ear..the ear wraps around in space and thus the edges can be changed just a little to show that form is turning in space.

some texture and values in the background would also help too..right now is just flat gray and so it is losing some interest there.

great great work though. keep it up.

it's looking great. watch out for the shape behind the neck..it looks like hair instead of something on the curtain. same goes for the shape above the hat that is spiked..looks kind of like it is on top of the hat instead of resting back in space on the curtain.

great job with your values too.

I really admire this portrait so far, it just has such a great structure and a lot of depth. Right now the flowers on the curtain are distracting. They don't look like they are a part of the curtain, they look like they are floating over it.

look for the wet specular highlight in both eyes...i still think you would be best served just removing the flower behind the neck though. outside that, i think this is a beautiful piece and the forms are modeled well. the expression is also quite strong...great attitude. so...it is up to you if you want to tweak that back flower some. it just feels like odd hair to me.

    beautiful job regardless.

But Iīm not sure wheter I understood what you meant with the highlights.Do you think the right eye needs also a highlight or the left eyes highlights arenīt correct?

eyes are wet and glossy...when you are sitting in that position do you see that visual effect? without it the eyes seem less like eyes...
