What if someone doesn't have photoshop? Can an entry be submitted in another format like pdf?

Also, does the relative size of the logo have to be in the ratio 410px x 120px, and where on the forum will it positioned?

-The logo ultimately needs to be able to be editable in .PSD format with all the respective layers used to build it
-Yes to the second, and in various locations. It will be the main logo around CA.org directories

What would happen if one does not own a "mobile phone/tablets (Apple or Android, any version)" Would I be correct in assuming that "basket of items and are not exchangeable for cash equivalent" means exactly what it says?

Why .psd file? A normal logo should be a vector graphic in .ai file. Also do you need it to apply to the present colors of the site or will they be changed according to the logo?

Good question, as long as we have the .PSD layered file, we can modify it to work with any background, where we use it.

Most good logos done professionally are created in vectors. This is great whenever you need to print a variety of media. (ie: business cards, envelopes, bus ads, etc.)You can scale it to whatever size and it looks great. Which makes it a shame that SVG art is not common place on the web. The other good thing about vector art is that it usually never has a background and you can always convert it to a pixel based format such as PSD. Illustrator can export to PSD with layers.

I just hope I can come up with something as slick as the 1st entry...

ConceptArt.org is the #1 Forum for Concept Art Sketchbooks, Digital Paintings, and Digital Artists who are here to help each other learn about art. Therefore it should be represented by an iconic logo that will be recognizable anywhere and one which will immediately represent and communicate the philosophy and mission of ConceptArt.org.

I would like to humbly submit the logo that I believe effectively does just that.

My apologies in advance for the number of images posted, but it is necessary to show the effectiveness of the logo when presented as a whole. The logo files are available in three formats. PSD, AI and PDF. The website logo will be a PNG 410px x 120px.

I wish I had more time to spend on this project, but this is what I could generate with the time I had available. Wishing all the success to all the entrants.

Schnaps really got me thinking… I stand by my opinion that a single logo cannot say everything about a brand. However, there are other devices that can be utilized to help logo/brand be more comprehensive. With this in mind I have amended my previous submission with the addition of a proposed tagline and artistic/graphic treatment for advertising purposes. I understand these elements were not called for, but I think they can be important elements to support a logo and help deliver a clearer brand message.

Please accept this as my revised and final entry. Thank you.

Pindurski, that is a really strong brand mark. Your execution of the presentation combined with your statement of rebranding demonstrates that you really know what CA.org is about. Visually speaking it's a striking mark with instant appeal and lasting recognizability. Great submission!

Pindurskic got the best one so far, and personally, I found it great that you can even see a tablet with a pen over it! Was it intentional?

I dont know, people were complaining that the original logo that Jason linked on the FB group wasnt strong enough and didnt represent anything to do with CA or art and that it can be something seen on the side of a" yogurt cup or a insurance advert. And While Pindurski's logo is good it can still be classed in the same bracket as what people were complaining about before.

    Humble_Student - Thank you.

L!nK - Nope, that tablet thing is a total fluke if that is what you see… er, I mean, yeah… I meant to do that

Schnaps - I don't know what people where saying about the logo posted to Facebook, but can I make a general statement about logos for people to consider when they consider the submissions and eventually judge them?

A logo doesn't tell a complete story about a brand -- it can't as there are simply too many facets to a brand to consider as I will demonstrate later. It is a stationary object with an extremely limited capacity. At best, a well designed logo can portray part(s) of the brand that make it unique in a design style that is reflective of the brand. It must also be delivered clearly and effectively across a variety of medium (print, web, mobile…) in varying applications (full colour, one colour, embroidered, silk screened…). In most cases a logo is merely a mark, a signature if you may, that encompasses the feel of the brand. So when considering what is CA? CA members need to ask themselves what CA is to them (art, fine art, painting, drawing, industrial design, illustration, community, discussion, learning, displaying personal art, participating in challenges, lusting after other peoples art...), and based on what they define as most important they can use that criteria to then select a logo. I am confident that by the end of this competition there there will be a collection of many deserving logos and it will be up to the community, or rather the majority of the community, to select the one that best reflects what CA means to them. After doing this for some time I know with absolute certainty that whichever logo wins it is NOT going to please everyone -- that too is an impossible task. I hope this helps! Best of luck to everyone

    Slow progress, but progress nonetheless...

My first logo too HaoningW. I think you have to win before they want it. (edited to upload amended version)

Okay, here goes with mine, as I said above, I've never designed one before. I took a slightly different approach to what conceptart.org stood for, and considered what it meant to me personally. (edited to upload amended version)

The flame emanating from a tablet, pad etc, represents the ignition/firing up of people's imagination, and the stars represent the members who have made it to the top and those who will come next.

As it is vector all the elements are easily edited to change colours. The lettering is mainly Adventurer Black SF, but I changed a few of them as I didn't consider they fitted well. I can also outline if is required – all scalable.

great work, never thought vectors would be so annoying. Right? (especially when you're an OCD)

I would have put my own personal view on my logo and what it means to me. But then I started thinking, if it needs explaining for people who understand what it is, wouldn't that just be...dull? That's just my opinion, it's perfectly fine to state what it is, but I think the logo should speak for itself.

I hope you guys don't mind, I have gathered some thoughts on some of these most recent submissions that might help you guys when designing/polishing your logos...

I like the tablet/paint brush idea! Be careful with your line weights in the pen… if your lines are too thin (they are in this case) when this is reduced in size those lines are going to become nearly invisible. I would suggest that the thickness of your lines should be no less then %75-%50
of the weight of the letters in the word "CONCEPT"

Very nice concept, and a solid first attempt at a corporate logo. Three quick thoughts:
    1. consider lessing the severity of the metallic texture on your lettering. When put on a white background, the harsh highlights nearly blend right into the background
    2. when using a drop shadow be careful that is it not so dark that it interferes with legibility. Currently the drop shadow is almost as dark the lettering itself. Typically a drop shadow of 10-20 is more then sufficient.
    3. possible simplify the flames in your icon. Right now some of the curves are smooth and flowing while others are harsh and abrupt. Adding a little more space between the flames and tablet might help it read a little better too… especially if this logo is reduced down to 1" in size.

Interesting idea! I encourage you think about application. How will the logo work incorporated into the website or reduced to black and white?

Solid attempt. A couple things you could work on:
    1. the letter spacing (tracking) between the C-O-N is much tighter then the rest of the word
    2. careful when you break up words. Your logo now reads Concept Art.org as opposed to ConceptArt.org. You have to be careful when using a company's name, you can't change how it is supposed to be read (I hope this makes sense)
    3. I would bump of the line weight of the O/power symbol so that it is consistent with the rest of the lettering -- it will make your logo much more cohesive.

    Slow progress, but progress nonetheless...
