Ok great to see where you are at. When you are first getting started it is very important to really focus in on the mapping out of your shapes as accurately as you can possibly get them. If you put a shape in the wrong place and commit you end up having the other shapes off and require fixing, which increases painting time. By taking just a few extra minutes early on to measure out your shapes, to compare your shapes, and be sure they are placed and drawn accurately will make the rest of the painting process, working out your values and edges, much much easier. Be extra sure that the shape you put down is the right value too.

I should remind you to flip the images horizontally and vertically so that you see the shapes with fresh eyes. This should be part of the process and if you are already doing that, keep doing it more. The professional artists will often flip images or use a mirror to see with fresh eyes as many as three or four times a minute as they are working when things really get flowing. You can also back away...actually get up and back away...and doing this works for shapes as well as checking values and edges.

Keep up the good work. you will get this.

Yeah, backing away really helps and I should flip the canvas more often, and taking time to analyze the illustration also helps.

Been busy with tests and other things. Hopefully, finals and other stuff won't keep me back too long. Moreover, the 2 week hiatus messed up my flow.

looking good, progress wise...your lightest light shape is a bit bigger than the original. keep a close eye on your values and you will get this down well. keep it up.

you flash; it's looking good. you need to get rid of those whites though. if I'm not mistaken, the only true white in this image is in the old man's shoe. I say just use brightness/contrast to darken the whole thing up, then add that little white to the shoe and continue. having the wrong pure whites in your image make getting values down such a drag, really

I'm still not sure on how to paint the ballet dresses.

Well, try to forget they are ballet dresses.. They are just areas of light-ish paint, grainy surface and soft fuzzy edges where light is low, sharp edges where the light is strong. When your brain tells you are making a ballet dress, remember that is just the illusion conveyed by the painting. Then try to really look at what there really is.
Anyway, your values are bit too bright and sharp edged. Try a soft brush on the floor to blend the values a bit. Adjusting brush opacity down to 10-15% for the blending might help too.

    agreed with sam.

a soft edged brush with a grainy edge...set to low opacity...so you can kind of build it up...will solve it.
