my name is Tom, I'm 20 and from Germany. I'm a student at an University enrolled in aerospace technology. I always liked to scribble around in my notebook and now im taking it a step further. I'm now seriously starting to practice to increase my drawing skill since drawing is a skill that I always wanted to obtain yet everyone expected me to become an engineer.
Some studies again an a Speedpaint thingy, a friend of mine requested. He gave me 3 words(In this case Robocop/Futuristic Highway/Mirror) and I had to come up with a scenery.
Quick question on this part if anyone is reading it: I draw like 99% studies from reference images. Does it make sense in the long term to just copy colors from a photo or should I also try to transfer these skills to paintings from imagination at this early stage of my "evolution"?
Your imaginative figure work shows the effort you have put into your studies. Keep up the good work! Any practice you do will help you improve by leaps and bounds, especially the figure work.
As for your question in the post before, do you mean using photos as a colour reference only and not as a basis for a drawing? At every point your should be trying to transfer these skills to your imaginative work - it consolidates the work you are doing - just like learning a language.
