    Thaiggy Color and Light 1.1

I don't have a table top mirror or a webcam (or camera) anymore so I had to resort to using my phone for this assignment. This is actually my first digital portrait.

I actually learned a lot from the video and from this one exercise

Hello Thaiggy! This already has a lot of great things going for it. I love how your hair frames the composition and how the painting is basically divided in half between dark and light. Your expression is winsome and really plays well against the waves of your hair. This biggest thing that jumps out at me, improvement wise, would be your neck. Right now it is over simplified and it is creating a weird tension at the edge of the format. Keep working on those edges and transitions. Can't wait to see the progression.

Here is another progress shot. I went back and tweaked the contrast of my reference picture a little to bring out the different planes of the face more and that helped me out.

    Thanks Grumpysaur!

Your value range is quite nice and looks like you are observing well. I do think that a bit more of your collar and chest/shoulder would be good in the piece so you improve the composition, would be helpful. Watch your edges and shapes on the neck too.

    Good work.
