    Corinne's Sketchbook

Here I go! Warning: Long post is long.

First, I wanted to share my digital studies from 2007-10. Then I'll start including scans of pencils sketches and stuff old & recent! Eventually, I'll get to my 2013 digital paintings and studies. The reason I didn't touch digital painting from '11- early'13 is because school, limited hardware, work, and focusing on other things in my life. I was able to create vectors, however but I don't know if I should share them here. Maybe finished work? Or portfolio review?

Now onto my digital studies. Refs were def used for most of these

My VERY first digital portrait study done sometime in '07. Yikes!

    Might actually finish this sometime!

Portrait from my imagination. Definitely needed to study facial anatomy!

Going to draw a lot more in '14! Here are some I've done so far. Gesture drawing still eludes me but I just need more practice - maybe spend more time doing longer gesture drawings. It seems like sometimes I get it, sometimes I don't.

very nice gestures! i´d suggest trying to push them a bit further, enhance the curves etc.
Force: Dynamic Life Drawing for Animators is an awesome book, has helped me a lot with pushing my poses, can´t recommend it enough

    Final 2013 Sketchbook pages

    Me as a guy
    sketchbook0014.jpg

    Pacific Rim OCs
    sketchbook0015.jpg

Sketches of Lil, Goddess of Hunger from NK Jemisin's Inheritance Trilogy. Will eventually draw her but need to work on monster anatomy. She has jaws that are ridiculous. She supposed to be incredibly skinny and at times she looks like a normal woman but when she feeds her mouth transforms into a monstrous thing that goes all the way down to her knees with rows of moving teeth. WOW

A color & value study for a portrait of my OC, Sirana a blood mage. I'm not that overly excited about it right now. Maybe I should add a blue in there somewhere or try a different sort of lighting.

She's supposed to be in an alley way, lit from above, getting ready to defend herself from unknown attackers or maybe she's provoking a fight.

I need to do more color & value studies.

The line quality of your gestures looks pretty good overall! I can tell those were done fast and loose. Your beans look good too! I would suggest for some of your imagination sketches and anatomy studies to focus on line confidence. Draw with your arm and wrist, not with your fingertips. Be wary of that scratched/feathered line, make mistakes with authority!

Wow, it's been forever and a day since I updated this sketchbook.
