CHOW #344 :: Cyberpunk Parkour Runner

CHOW #344 :: Cyberpunk Parkour Runner

    Character of the Week #344
    Cyberpunk Parkour Runner

    Deadline - Sunday, January 26th 10PM GMT

In a futuristic city, the government has strict tabs on the citizens. Resources are controlled and people are limited on obtaining
goods. There is an underground organization that can be hired, who specializes in obtaining goods for the right cause/price. Their methods of transportation is parkour, so they know the city like the back of their hands, and it allows the members to be well organized, quick, efficient and never leave a trail. This time, the group is hired to deliver a very special package. The package must NOT be damaged or lost, otherwise there will be no payment.

Your job is to design the member who is given the task of delivering this "package" to it's destination.

    The Guidelines:
    • Can be male or female
    • Race is Human..
    • Must include the "package". It must not be larger than the runner, nor hinder their movement.
    • Include one special piece of equipment that this runner never leaves without. It must have a yellow smiley face sticker on it.
    • Genre is Cyberpunk, so get some good references.
    • Cyborgs are acceptable, think ghost in the shell. Do NOT design a robot. Cyborgs/androids are different from robots!

    The Rules
    • Finals must be posted in the finals thread before the deadline
    • Final post must include the CHoW number and the artists username at the bottom of the image
    • At least 3/4 of the character must be visible
    • Sketches or rushed artwork will not be accepted into the poll
    • No photograph paint overs, must be 100% original work
    • At least two wips posted with your final in the finals thread
    • NO ENVIRONMENT BACKGROUNDS! You may use simple shapes, gradients or silhouettes
    • Have fun!

@ Taman shud: Looks pretty cool man! Why wouldn´t beginners be allowed?

A few rough ideas. Thinking about going with the lower left picture. Suggestions are welcome.

Cyberpunk is not my cup of tea at all. But it's more challenging then, isn't it? This will be one fun round!

Yo, Cloud, I had a similar idea with rocket legs. Hope I won't be considered a plagiarist

So, here is my first sketch.

Here's a WIP. I dont have too much experience with very dynamic poses so this is a good challenge. Any CC is totally welcome. I plan on adding a lot more details to fit the brief. Like the package and whatnot...just trying to get the anatomy proper before I add the other stuff.

@ Spellsword95: Why would you even sweat it brah?! No problem, I actually can't think of a reason why someone would NOT give a character rocket legs! XD

@ KaeGabrielle: Thats a very nice start...a couple of things worth noting..unles she's running through some strong winds, her hair should not pe moving in the same direction she is... ;P Also, try curving her back a little or slanting it further back, right now it looks like her legs sprout from her rib cage...hope that helps a little

@ Taman Shud: Wow! great idea with the exo-muscles..I havent see it often, and im eager to see how you work them in.. Keep in mind that right now, they dont seem to serve too much of a purpose. But They look cool. Also even tho I like the pose youre working on, I feel that maybe it would be better to show more of the front of the Character? unless you plan to do a char sheet to go with this ilo...IDK anyhow keep it up and welcome to CHOW!

JB-Charakterdesign really interesting design, the pose is cool too. Shame about hiding her face.

Mirrors Edge? I might check out the concept art for Faith and the new game but for now some reference sketches. Taman Shud I was thinking of a reinforced spinal cord, similar idea to yours, be careful with the pose though Havoc doesn't allow back views, hopefully okay if you show enough of an angle and character.

Quick concepts. My idea is to have the runner be sponsored by a company that makes free running gear. The runner will deliver goods in uniform, advertising the brand and putting the gear to good use in the process. I imagine that many licensed runners are sponsored as a means to get a discount on the expensive tech. Un-licensed runners have to make do without.

Man, Juicy looking stuff thus far guys! The concepts are prime.

Here's what I've got going-- started late last night just to build momentum. Now I'm going to spend time making the topmost pose more fundamentally accurate!

Hey guys great stuff! I'm still trying to flesh out my character so I'll add more dynamic poses later. It's very inspiring to see all the cool concepts and styles. I'm really digging CLoud-Yo's sketches. The line quality, detail and the fluidity of the drawing is top notch.

@Cloud-Yo! Thanks for the pointers. Good point about the hair even though I suppose I'm guilty of drawing the windiest of days in many pieces, all this time! Haha. And yeah I think this WIP looks a bit better, but I'm still going to be adjusting the legs most likely. It just feels off. Sigh...

Wow this CHOW is just lovely ! I love cyberpunk a lot, so I will try to do something, but I was quite busy at the beginning of the week.
So far I love the two heavy transhuman design : the one with the retractable running blades is awesome and the one with 4 arms is great too. I have scribbled something with cats legs this morning but it's probably too difficult for me to draw ... I will try anyway

okay new take on this, some sort of exoskeleton that allows higher jumping, faster running, etc..

interesting stuff you guys are coming up with ! I would love to see all these characters in a game, where you race with other characters to deliver a package to a certain location, while dodging, sprinting and free running your way through a dense futuristic city

Started with a simple pose, which I probably should have kept for the sake of "design", but I went more dynamic because I wanted an excuse to show the backpack idea. Since the package cant be damaged I created a bag that holds its contents in a sort of stasis field.

Have a good idea of clothing for the character, but so far I just have the gesture and wanted to nail the head down for motivation.

Considering the item with smiley to be a wrist watch as the character is dedicated to be the fastest/ most efficient of the organization.

Spells, I'm loving it! I'm glad I found someone else who likes sketching in ballpoint pen! Nothing against all of the pen-and-tablet artists here...for sure, there's some fine work represented here. But sometimes you just can't beat good old-fashioned paper and [insert traditional utensil here].

Step 2, settled on a design, focused on making it as functional as possible. Avoided anything skin tight, want to reduce irritation during long runs. I also wanted to avoid any cybernetic attachments, instead going for a branded look. I'll either have to do a rear-view, or callouts to render her packs. Also, lookit' the adorable leetle android! D'aawwww.

I gotta get my WIP in before you guys take all the great ideas. Loving the way this chow is going and it's gonna be a great Final. I kept mine a bit more simple and starting to feel like she isn't "cyberpunk" enough.

Dayle: The package isn't what needs the sticker on it. Also, you might want to rethink the high heel boots. Not the best for running in.
