Hey everybody, I've recorded a tutorial for my latest study of Jean-Leon Gerome's Diogenes, it took me about 40 hours to paint and I've made a video and narrated it in the hopes of helping people learn. The vid is 45 minutes, I tried to make it short, hope you like it
Thankyou. I'm not really at a painting stage personally, but I do love watching a commentary just to "absorb" ideas and ways of doing. Your use of many layers and layer transformations was particularly novel for me, I find myself erasing and redrawing to fix proportions, it never occurred to me to try it in this way. Look forwards to reading your SB and website.

Thanks very much for watching, I really appreciate the comment, I hope you got something from the video. My ways of working change with each painting, for most pieces I'd only use a few layers, but I needed the flexibility for this one because I knew I'd need to make adjustments to the figure. As for transformation - I watched this video some time ago by Matt Kohr where he was drawing curves - he'd try it and then warp it into what it needs to be... It was like a revelation for me.
