Planting the seeds of perseverance: A journey from humble beginnings

    Hello everyone,
I've just turned 20 years of age ;-;, and have decided to trek the precarious world of art!

I'm going to freely admit that I have trouble with perseverance which extends to everything I do, this has lead to an awful regretful feeling I harbor due to not learning any intangible skills; well at least to an above mediocre grasp. In saying that, the reason why I want to learn art is not to boast, no far from it. I want to be able to view myself with approbation, and art just feels like the right way of achieving this level of self-conference. Lastly, there are so many ideas floating around in my almost incoherent jibba jabba mind that need to be expressed! *End of dry sob*

I was inspired by Jonathan's (MindCandyMan), just stupendously grand journey; he and a few other people I know personally inspired me to pick up a pencil to draw from the first time since pre-school on the 2nd of December, 2013. I'm around the same age as when Jonathan started drawing, so with hard work, maybe in 10 years i'll be able to create art.

The rules that I've set myself follows:

At least 5 hours of art on day's I am not working (Mon-Friday)
At least and hour on the weekend.
At the end of every week, i'm going to be uploading what I've created, atrocious or attractive.

Now, I started off reading drawing with the book: Drawing with the right side of your brain, So the following pictures are going to be heavily influenced.

Now without without further adieu my art, this is most certainly going to be confronting and my scanner is kinda small, some images might be cropped.

What a hectic week it's been. I didn't get to work on my art as much as I would have preferred, but I still managed to draw everyday of the week. FeelsGood.jpeg

I'm in the process of finding an art education as I'm not game enough to be a "Self taught Guru". Due to living in Adelaide, Australia, I've had to direct my focus to finding an online Atelier. So after looking around, I have concluded that I would like enroll in Jonathan's Classical Art Online (No surprise seeing as he is my role model) We've messaged each other, now I'm just waiting to get started.

As for books, I've bought the following:
    The Natural Way to draw
    The Bridgman box set
The Artists complete guide to drawing the head
The practice and Science of drawing
    Human Anatomy for artists
    Drawing the head and hands

Just waiting on them to be delivered now.

Well here's what I've done last week, I captured the images with my Iphone due to my scanner being too small:

I bought a charcoal pencil and thought it would be cool to draw my favorite backyard plant with charcoal black leaves. I really messed up the trunk so many times that I almost destroyed the paper ;---; Lesson learned, sketch lightly

-BansheeSix thanks for the encouragement. Learning how to observe has led to some interesting discoveries from relatively vapid sources.

Hello everyone once again, I'm here to dump my atrocious artwork due to my behooving obligation to adhere to priorly set precedents. I was on the road this week, visiting my Grandparents who live in the country side of Port Vincent in the Yorke Peninsula. I was very excited to meet with one of my Grandparent's neighbors who is an phenomenal landscape artist but unfortunately I was unaware that she'd moved on to another town; Bummer. I'm kicking myself for not taking any pictures of her works to post here online.

As for an art education, I'm now on Jon's waiting list to start his atelier. I'm getting giddy at the thought of someone taking the rains of my education and helping me to organize and prioritize what I should and shouldn't be doing. In the meantime, I think I'm going to apply for some short courses at my local University.

I'm still waiting for the books that I ordered in December >.<, So I've haven't really been able to start teaching myself art due to an aversion to reading PDF's on the computer; I dunno why but I feel an obligation to purchases a hard copy of the book.

As for the quality, I think I went down hill this week. Everything I drew wasn't the best. Hopefully I can improve on this next week.

Flowers can be so difficult to draw well.

I'm not too happy with the lion head. At this point, I don't think i'm going to complete the drawing

I've made a goal for this week, and it entails drawing more still life's and flowers. I would like a decent Flower by Monday. I'll most likely continue with this goal up until my books arrive and I can start drawing studies.

Hello everyone, a week has passed once again!

I've really come to enjoy posting on this website, posting here has almost become an accountability but I digress, I don't feel like I'm forcing myself to post, which is good.

I received all the books I had on order, and this week I will be reading and studying them. I think I'll start with Bridgman then I'll progress to Looms.

I'm in the process of now looking for a camera. I'm trying to find a DSLR as per recommendation on Jon.

There are a few drawings that I quite like this week, but we week was filled with distractions and I wasn't able to draw as much as I would have preferred.

    Hey everyone,

What a horrible week it's been. Here in Adelaide Australia, the temperature reached 46C (115F) Which was insane. The ground was so heated, that the cold water taps would expel hot water, and to top it off, I didn't have any air conditioning. Not fun. Needless to say, I didn't get much done this week haha.
