    Red face Ethnax's Sketchbook

Since I have neglected my sketchbook on my old account for an appalling amount of time, it's probably appropriate to start a new one. I'm only just beginning to find time to make art regularly and I want to improve as much as possible before applying for university next year.

    =)

Any feedback will be very much appreciated

So, to start, here's a mix of things I've done recently.

Finished off an oil painting today, quick Thomas Cole value study and ballpoint pen sketch. I forgot how fun ballpoint pens are to sketch with, I'll have to buy some more
I'll try to take a photo of the painting in better lighting tomorrow.

Very strong stuff! Are those initial studies from life or photos? Going to be keeping an eye on this sketchbook, looking forward to your next uploads.

What are you planning on studying by the way?

    Thanks Braydan
The studies are from photos, with the exception of the pastel one which is from life.

I've been trying to figure out what to study for years. I'm being pushed towards 3D Animation at Hertfordshire, although I've little experience 3D or animation. The course looks great though. I've also been looking at illustration, graphic design, game design, special effects, etc. I'm horribly indecisive. I'll have to go to some open days when I move back to England.

Tried out a mirror self portrait today to practice colour and drawing from life, which are my weaker points. I think I failed a bit with the colour and value, but my observational skills have improved a lot since the last time I tried a self portrait. Learnt a lot from this one.

The self portrait turned out nice. I don't know though if the face is this long, or if it is a bit stretched.
Other than that, great job for a from life study! Do more and you will improve gradually.

    Thank you very much
I do have a fairly long face, but I see what you mean. I probably misjudged the angle of my head.

Wow! I love your work! Your profile pic and portrait study are especially good. I'd recommend you to study different types of faces (male, fat, thin, etc.) to diversify and have a little challenge. Other than that, I think your drawings are very strong and will definitely watch this sketchbook for more

Thank Hanabrya! It's definitely on my list to get more diversity in my art.

I haven't done nearly as much as I had hoped to in the past few weeks, but here's a couple of sketches and some life drawing/painting from a class I took a little while ago.
