    Hi Folks.

A question about the 2014 Free Tuition Contest has come up that I would like to clarify here.

After much discussion, we have decided to limit eligibility of participation in the Free Tuition Contest to Canadian citizens only...I believe this info is ' officially ' noted in the contest guidelines on our web page, but perhaps is overlooked when someone is quickly skimming through it.

In any case, there you have it.

    Thanks

    Charlie Bonifacio Pro Tip

It did occur to me , that since Charlie Bonifacio is the judge for the upcoming Free Tuition Contest, that it makes really good sense for you to carefully study, contemplate , and put into ' graphic action ' his protip.....because clearly, that's the number one thing he'll be looking for when he's handing out the prizes.......

    So go here:

2014 Character Design Contest - Win Free Tuition Pro Tip #7

This week our Pro Tip is offered by character designer / animator Brian Lemay.

Brian suggests using animated films as a source for studying well designed animated characters, kind of what we visual artists do when we study from Masterworks in order to understand the underlying motivation behind what we are seeing design wise.

Follow this link to get to Brian's tip:

Pro tip #7 Character Design Contest

The time is drawing near for the contest adjudication date, so get your design in ASAP

Character Design Contest Win A Free Tuition 2014 Pro Tip # 8

Well...we are getting close to the deadline for receiving character designs of your making, to give you a shot at getting free tuition for the upcoming session, as well as lots of other great prizes...giving stuff away is fun, but we can't give any of it away unless you submit your characer designs!!

There are 8 days left until the deadline...and that's plenty of time to whip up something interesting in the character design dept.....

Fortunately, we have a fantastic ProTip for you from none other than our very own APW Director Vince Peets...

His Pro Tip focuses on the element of contrast..or in this case, what Vince likes to call variation.

Getting a ProTip on creating a character design from a guy who was lucky enough to be chosen to work under the direction of the great Chuck Jones on an animated short of Daffy Duck, is well, kind of cool really.

    Anyway, here's the link:

    Character Design Contest Protip #8

.....study it carefully, and good luck with your design!

    Happy Drawing!

Thanks to Concept Art from Animation Portfolio Workshop

Sorry for posting this so late in the game...

Our contest wound up with a bang this year, and we had lots of great drawings submitted and happy prize winners in the 2014 Win a Free Tuition Character Design Contest....

I want to take this opportunity to formally thank Concept Art for providing such a great platform to help get the word out to interested students.

This year, one of our prize winners identified our contest thread on Concept Art as having been the source of her information with regards to learning about, and ultimately participating in the event.

Thanks again to everyone at Concept Art.

    Gerard
