hi everyone! also havent participated for a while. ok, here it goes, my first sketch.
I added a bit more perspective now. and some more features.
@ Scorge: The sense of scale is nice, but I'm not so much seeing the resemblance to an evergreen pine...at least, not yet.
@ Gregor: Cool idea, cool render, looking forward to seeing more
My goal is to finish the "illustration" of this concept sometime today, and then proceed to doing a front-side-back turn around that would be useful enough for a production team to do the 3D model... well it's a bit bass-ackwards of me, but I'll see what I get done by the deadline.
Mine will be based off some of the creepier caterpillars in existence.
In the densest climes of the Canadian rockies, the wind warped pines snake up against sky, and there midst the branches the Pine Dragon attempts to conceal itself from potential prey.
ok. done with the lines. I changed the format, because I think it makes the composition more interesting..
@ Kraemology: thank you! I hope it ist going to work that way.. I actually dont often use this technique..
@ Lhune: awesome shading! I am excited about how it is going to look in the end. I personally often dont know when to stop painting, so I will watch how you are going to make this.. cheers
So I hit the wall of my creatives block... and here's the result. I will try to knock out a turn-around with the "final".
I'd appreciate any critique. I can't immediately see the problem areas and I'd like to.
I'd like push it further later.
@ ProZacaryBrown: wow! now its getting really beefy!^^
@ Scorge: lol -- even the sledge leads the eye back into the painting and the trees look like arrows that show the upcoming eruption when the beast beats the ground. great compositon! I think your giant could look even more powerful if you slightly changed the angle of view.
@ Lhune: After seeing yours I also wanted to include some game animals, but I dont know if thatd be so .. cool then.. ^^ cheers.
Okay. here is an update. I dont know how much time I will have next week, so I have to finish it in the weekend.

ok. trying to finish it tonight. cheers
Thank you Gregor! Decided to work the compo a little more and tweak a lot of things.
Lhune: Better! Looks good.
Everyone is doing a great job!
I guess I'm done. Eyes can't take anymore.
I see no problems, I did say 'at least' two stories after all
Epic work as always scorge!
I´m going to try something completely different, some giant crab that collects piles of seaweed on its back, comes to land and wonders around pine tree forests dressed as a giant pine tree. Probably because he hunts deer and boars and what not. Or it just likes to be a tree..

thank you Lhune, I am also excited about your final piece!
lol my eyes cant take anything more either.. I think I am done with my piece. Next time I want to play a bit more with light and shadow. ok have a nice sunday everyone!
My concept is that it's a huge sort of lumbering, lazy, turtle-influenced giant, which instead of fighting uses its back crest ringed with green spiky fur to blend in with the giant conifers it lives among.
I got a little into it without stopping to post WIPs, so here's a few all at once SORRY :
First Post Ever
I'm gunna get in on this action, just a few days left. Hope I can come up with something nice before it's done.

final concept lots of rendering to do now ... Cool looking stuff everyone, looking forward to finals
Hey hey, entering a bit late :p And i have wayyy too many ideas bouncing around in my head. Trying to narrow it down to two; 1st - Insect like with long "pine" tail, 2nd - "upright" strong legs, maw on the underbelly, green poisonous needles along the lenght of the body and crazy eye stalks and tentacles.
Pardon the crappy camera phone capture of the sketches.
My shot. So far so good, as far as I am concerned
Rendering will bring it closer to the brief. Skin and shell will have a texture similar to that of a pine tree, and all the spiky things will resemble pine needles. Background story is in development
Hey guys! Some great stuff in here! Remember to post your finished entries in the Finals thread when they are ready, because there is just 12 hours left in this topic!
hi there; initial sketch for the giant, will try to complete it further to see i f i can submit the final
