Hey all! It's crossover time once more. For those who are new to the EOW, a crossover is a combination of this activity and the Industrial Design of the Week (IDW), and what happens is we co-host a weekly theme and strive for a refreshing taste of both worlds. When it comes to designing concept art, should any area be neglected, especially when you can exercise your creativity as well as challenge yourself by trying both sides of the field? Innovation and scenery together can be a feast for the eyes, and the mind, etc.
TOPIC: Children's Alley
It is a dim and dark future where the phenomenon of homeless children roaming the streets has become an everyday occurrence. The narrow, winding back alleys in this grimy city have become the particular domain of the smallest children.
1. Design an environment that adheres to the topic/theme.
2. You must post at least once in this W.I.P. thread to be included in the finals thread for the voting poll.
You do not have to participate in both rounds, but we strongly suggest you do.
Deadline: Monday, December 9
Thank you to Pixie Trick for coming up with the great theme this week.
-- Congrats to Vyse for winning round #218: Tomb of Horrors.
Post your final entries in the 'FINAL BURNING' thread which I will be posting about a week or so from the deadline. If you need more time to get your finals in, let me know and I'll extend the deadline. Good luck!

Such a cool topic can't wait to get started on this, good luck everyone!
Ma Sketchbook brings all the girls to the forums, damn right its worse than yours.
Ah this sounds like an awesome topic
Design a big robot. How is that not IDW?
a little mood study I'm still working on a good composition the story is still in progress as well
Everything is permitted
Incinerated, interesting light. I look forward to see how it will develop
Overlord Gunnar, all of your thumbnails are looking professional
I wasted 2h doing this:
I never know if to declinate seriously or not... Than I mix it. Well, this will be kind of children' lair with all the good and bad things "adult" children loves. This is the composition and idea of the double mood in it with kinda of the hard and sharp image children wanna pretend with the city, and than the backalley with sweets, cigarets (probably made of chocolate), and maybe a mecanic musical donkey. Sure I will add the "game room" for videogames coin op (look at my robot protector in IDOW), and satellite parabola TV. Well, will see...
I've been lurking around CA for awhile now, and thought it was time to post something! I've been learning about environment design for a couple of months, and every piece of painting I've come across here have been amazing! Hoping to learn a bit more from everyone here
This is WIP – idea stems from my birthplace, where there are plenty of narrow streets and alleyways. Just seeing how much of the man-made objects we can relate to can be manipulated.
great work so far everyone
Incinerated : looks greats man! as always your Platte is superb
BlindLynx : great concept , love it!
Leoz : great start dude
OverlordGunnar : wonderful details looks great! , thanks for helping with tips from the previous EOW by the way
This time i tried to think about perspective while painting my thumbnails :

LnF - great dude. See you getting hang of perspective. This thumb's a way better and readable than last pieces. Thumb up! I like the upper left
EDIT - reminds me a lot of overlords though
Just lurking for now. Saw LNF's post and had to comment.
Dude those thumbs are light years ahead compared to even a round or two ago. Great progress mate...well done!
They are all nicely setup, for the brief I'd say the top left one fits best, as it is the most claustrophobic and feels more alley-like. Nice asymmetric shapes at the focal points...keep that going!

@LnF - Is so good to see self progress, but, ehy, is so good to see other progress too! Good job. I agree with others, left top, basically, is the same prospective used byu Overlord and me.
@Overlord - great quality as the last one. But, if I can say, why is this the Children Alley? Just because of the colored tents? How we know this is not the Crusty Punk Headquarter, or the Psycho Circus Hideout? We need hits to know is a children place IMMO (in my modest opinion) =)
@Leoz - Love the Miyazaki feeling. If you will enter in details this could be my fav work.
@Okamia - I like central perspective and that raw and burn sienna mix, so thumb up. Give us more WIP!
LnF: thanks mate
BlindLynx: I'm glad you like it
Thank you @BlindLynx!
Here is a small update:
An update to the image uploaded last night, I'm not sure how much more time I have left to add to it before the deadline as I am going back to work tomorrow, but here it is!
The idea from this painting stems from a country where tight alleyways are common — it was interesting to see how the idea would turn out when merging the idea of an alleyway, usually associated with dirt, mysteriousness and darkness, and incorporating with the stage of childhood, where it is more commonly associated with bright objects and playfulness. So the idea was to utilise the elements that are usually found in alleyways and using those as potentially playful elements, like an urban playground.

My second WIP, I gave up on the previous one... this one is more interesting. Any suggestions more than welcome.
Thumb I did. I kinda like the vibe, think I'll try and make something of this if I find the time!
I like the ligthing but I will probably go with a better angle
still experimenting with different perspectives I might go with a city slums approach I dont know
Everything is permitted
Thank you all for your help and kind words , I really appreciate it!
Aissa78 : been trying to practice as much as i can , it really helps when drawing with perspective less guessing for me , thanks!
monkeybread : Hi mate thanks for all your help and crits it did helped me out quite a bit!
BlindLynx : Thank you! i saw your bad ass robot concept over at the IDOW great idea!
Flame_Unquenchable : hey , great sketch , it looks to me like a futuristic mall that children wrecked everything , but that's probably just me , good job!
Mikus : hi buddy looks good so far , really liked the buildings at the background
A Small update :
I started to paint in the details , the story behind it is to show a camp of children that trained themselves into a small army to help protect
their camp , inside the camp i want to show their daily life routines like watching movies , playing or training etc.. the 3 small kids over the left hand side were thrown out the streets
they came across and saw this camp and wish to join in (who doesn't right ? ) hope i will manage to convey the idea and finish on time
Sketch Book :
My Sketch Book
Been struggling a bit with this one. Not to happy with the result considering my own vision.
