zjai's sketchbook - beginner that loves drawing
Hi guys, I just joined ConceptArt, I have been here looking at stuff for a while, and would like to post some of my stuff.
I just toasted this first post trying to get the thumbnail to show.
I've been drawing/painting just over a year now. Actually doing it daily/almost daily for a few months.
Thanks for looking at my sketches! Please leave a comment if you drop by!

This stuff is all a bit more recent--
View outside my plane window on a plane
The first time I think I drew an appealing realistic portrait
A sketch of some trees near work
A sketch of the view over the river near work (thats meant to a pier)
Some landscape thumbnails
This was something I picked up out of an anatomy book
A couple of characters from a story I'm working on

Here is me learning how to paint digitally. You can kind of see how I have no idea what I'm doing, but slowly pick things up.
The Mist King character is in quite a few of these.
This is kind of a self portrait--I took a photo of myself for reference (don't think I've ever shot my own reference like that before).
I tried painting over it, but I really had no idea what I was doing. I let the picture sit for months, probably.
Renton and Eureka from Eureka 7, I thought the moon came out pretty good, I like this one.
I saw an article in ImagineFX about how like, some people start character drawings from a sihoulette. I tried it on quite a few drawings like this one.
Labrys from Persona 4. Pretty sure I drew this from reference somewhere, but made the style a bit more realistic.
Samus from Metroid--I started playing around with greyscale instead of colours, to help me work out values first because I'm a noob. I've done a few things like this. I also watched a Ctrl Paint video that said it was easier to learn how to paint if you could remove colour from the equation, at least at the start.
Anyway, with what I picked up during this stage I was finally able to finish my Mist King picture that I envisioned so long ago, I would like to share it here:
I think this is the only picture I've ever signed, haha.
This was a pretty big deal to me because I finally was able to create something that I imagined, it's like I seriously took the scene out of my mind and got it on paper (well, Photoshop).
I thought I might get burned out on drawing after finishing it but I'm still super keen and have been drawing every day since then.
The next post I make will have whatever studies or pictures I'm working on currently.
Thanks for looking!

Some stuff from the last few days.
A landscape study of some rain clouds, some marker stuff and some gestures.
Also, for fun I started drawing a manga copic, here is part of a page of it.
I have also been reading Vilppu's drawing manual over the last few days to work on gestures.

I've been diligently practicing, but haven't scanned anything.
Instead here is some stuff I've done on my ipad lately
Anything cool I take into Photoshop later.

These are random pages from a sketchbook full of 1000 small gesture drawings (or it will be, so far it's at 300 or 400 or something).
Some are from life drawing photos, some are from Attack on Titan screencaps and some are done without reference.
