Wow Pou, you are really doing better ever since school ended for you. Keep it up with the imagination stuff, it's tough. Some stuff that jump out at me is you gotta work on keeping those hard edges or it gives off a slushy look. Practice doing more different angles and foreshortening studies. It really helps you get a better feel for perspective and understand the form better. So ya good job and keep goin'!

I can't believe I haven't commented here before! I've been watching your art for a while now. Thank you for the lovely advice on my sketchbook.

First of all, congratulations on graduating! That's a big deal! I'm two semesters away from graduating myself. What are your plans now that you're free from the academic world?

Also, congratulations on having so much progress in so little time! Less than a year, and there is already a large improvement in your skills! Just imagine where you'll be in another few months... Jeez. And having times where you feel like no matter what you want or try, you still can't draw is completely normal. We all have these days, weeks, months. Maybe recognize it as your mind's way of saying it needs a break from what you're doing, and try something new! Go outside, hang out with some friends, play a new game, read a book. Maybe you need some new inspiration, or merely to recharge! And if you really want to continue working a your art while in this rut, try something new even still! Draw fanart, recreate the cover of your favorite book, draw something you've never drawn before, do some studies of your favorite artists. Even reach out to a fellow artist and do something fun together! We're out there.

Otherwise, keep up the good work! I'll be back soon.

Hey dude. Thx for the msg, i'm glad it's helping. I'm working through the same thing, still concentrating a ton on value but i've just started moving back into color, and it's reeeeeally improved. Anyway, glad to see that you're still working bigtime, and now you have some more time to focus on improving. Awesome! Only suggestion I have at this point is like Kathleen said about the edges, in your imagination drawings you tend to really blur out your edges in certain places where, even if it's a study, it doesn't seem to make sense, and you really lose the sense of form to the object. For example, the last picture in post #392, there isn't a clear conception of the lighting on the dress, and at the bottom it ends up reading pretty flat. The light seems to be from the front and a little above, but on the bottom of the dress it seems to be coming from high and to the right, out of the picture. One thing that's really helped me with the same thing is doing lighting renders on simple shapes from my imagination, and thinking about the forms as simple shapes. It's reeeeeeeeeally helped me understand how to light things better, and given me a more solid conception of the forms that's easy to apply and manipulate. I'll be posting in my thread soon to show what I mean.

Here's my 2 yen; hope it helps. Keep up the great, hard work that you're doing, cause you're getting there!

Hey Pou Pou! I like you most recent imagination piece it seems to be really coming along!I find it quite fustrating adding colour to a greyscale piece, especially at the early stages...but i find if you keep working at it, it can take shape, and it seems to be happening with your piece. Will you work on it a little further?

I'm so stupid for not visiting your SB for some time! My apologies! :'( That imagination piece is great, don't be discouraged. BW > Color is hard! If you've worked more on it, please let me know. Show meh! you know how I feel about naked people in big draperies. *gosh*!

Amazing improvement. My only critic is about personality. Begin to think about choices for make yourself out. Style is not something we have to look for, but choices ARE. Study is important, but do not renounce to expressivity and colors. I would never thought I would write something like this, I use to repeat the contrary to my pupils, but you really need to let yourself explode. Just a bit =)
