Character of the Week #338
Deadline - Sunday, November 3rd 10PM GMT
For our final Halloween/Horror themed CHoW we are going to explore Japanese folklore, more specifically Oni, variously translated as demon, devil, ogre or troll. Depictions of Oni vary widely but they are usually portrayed as a hideous, gigantic ogre-like beings with sharp claws, wild hair, and two long horns growing from their heads.
They are humanoid for the most part, but occasionally, they are shown with unnatural features such as odd numbers of eyes or extra fingers and toes. Their skin may be any number of colors, but red and blue are particularly dominant. They are often depicted wearing tiger-skin loincloths and carrying iron clubs.
For this final Halloween themed CHoW we would like you to design Oni. Happy Halloween!
- Gender is male
- Genre is Japanese folklore/horror
- Include the iron club
- Finals must be posted in the finals thread before the deadline
- Final post must include the CHoW number and the artists username at the bottom of the image
- At least 3/4 of the character must be visible
- Sketches or rushed artwork will not be accepted into the poll
- No photograph paint overs, must be 100% original work
- At least two wips posted with your final in the finals thread
- Background is optional
- Have fun!

Here's mine for this week, thanks for looking!
Won't have time to work on it more, before the deadline. So here goes
<<Since 1613 I got caged. Closed in my mace's sheath. Four centuries I've past in silence, chained and thirsty. But tonight I will hear again the roar of war. Tonight I got realesed. Tonight I will drink their blood and feed on their terrified faces. I'm the spirit of cruelity, back in Edo, and it's 2013. And tonight is your last night>>.
Great round everybody! As you see, after all the mod I tryed on my Oni, at least I choose to keep back the cap instead the straw hat. An artist must take his own risk, and so I did. Sure it's full of japanese folk flavor and horror spiced. The point is that I choose to put my oni not in a fantasy world and age, but in our days, in our world. There he picked up the cap and cigaro =).

Heres my final, wish I had more time as I would have loved to have put in some more details. Still I'm happy with what I managed, especially since I'm still trying to get the hang of painter.
I'm not very happy with it, but the time is almost over and I don't think it will get much better than this, so here it goes:
I hope to see you in next CHOWs
Hi there, this is my first post on CA! I've been looking through the forum for several weeks now, but this challenge I couldn't resist, so I signed up, drew my Oni and hope you like him. Also, I'd LOVE to get some feedback from you guys when the poll's over (I think that's the rule, isn't it?).
For those of you, who are interested in: The final version was painted with gouache on paper and it's about 18x20 cm. That's why the quality is a little bit strange, since it is a photograph.
Good luck everyone
Aaaand it's finished
Here is my go ..Good luck everyone
my final Oni (wouldn't say i'm satisfied with it, anyway)
