These are lovely and very inspiring. It's nice to see the improvement over time, and I love the way you handle buildings. Do you only use ink for these, or do you do a light sketch in pencil first? I was also wondering about the rock sketch in post #7...did you use an ink wash or marker?

I really like the ones you just posted. I'm really impartial to the men with the hatching halfway across their faces as well as the one dated Nov 14. The way you handle shading with ink is really uniform and even. It reminds me of this comic book I read based on Franz Kafka's Metamorphosis or something along those lines.
I also smirked at seeing the woman with the phone. It's gotten pretty boring drawing on the subway. It's always people on their phones, same positions each time. Same in the classroom, haha!

Great to see all your ink work in one thread, Vineris. Handy for lazy gits like me who never did get round to checking out your sketchbook, oops.
I love the boat further up, and the view of mountains and trees, and the sketches of people are lovely and fresh.

Thanks Nyvivianv, Aqualeot and Candra! Sorry about wandering off for a bit, I've been painting like crazy. But there will be some totally new inks coming soon because I went on Sketchcrawl this month. In the meantime, the compilation continues!
(Nyvivianv, I know all about repetitive poses. All I ever seem to draw some months is the profiles of people in pubs. But yeah, I went through the back-of-classmates'-heads phase and the people-texting-on-the-bus phase. I should go back to the Uni and look for people sleeping. At least they look funny sometimes.)

January sketchout. We had a portrait party at a local brunch place. I think we may have converted the waitress to the church of sketching. Two of my fellow artists:
I sketched some more people a couple weeks later at a board game cafe. My husband's labmate got his PhD and, as is traditional, he was paying for beer (and less traditionally, board games).
Board game cafes are awesome. The board game renaissance is one of the more fun things that has happened in the past 10 years.

Lovely sketches! I like your linework very much, it give a very nice feeling. :o)
Just a quick question: when you sketch outdoors, do you eyeball everything and draw it straight
on paper, or do you make some guidelines - mental or not - to establish the right perspective?
I´m guessing the more you´ve done things, the quicker and better judge of the visual relationships
you become, but it´s always been a fearsome subject this one, so thought to ask. :o)

The more you practice the more you improve in judging visual relationships, but even after many years of sketching I find that I sometimes have to check angles or distances using the pencil as a measuring tool, or to draw the negative space as well as the positive. I usually sketch the object or person lightly with a pencil to ensure that I am not too far off before I begin to make permanent lines in ink.

That´s some really helpful information, thanks for clarifying! It makes sense, entirely.
I´ll try the pencil method and angle relationships´ observation a bit more, and hopefully it´ll
become a healthy habit from here on. It´s so much easier to see those angles in references, but
it´s probably exactly what you mentioned, that in real life things actually move and you get eventually
some kind of obstacles in your visual plane. Thank you very much for the insight! :o)
