How do you know when youre ready?

How do you know when youre ready to develop your own style and own techniques? How do you know that youve reached the level where youre good enough and youve have enough knowledge to?

The professionals here often write that style comes and you don't actively create your own style.

    Point #9 here:

It depends on your influences and preferences. I wouldn't worry about it too much.

there is no such point - at least in my opinion.

you soak up and soak up... you see this and see that, you try to implement something of it in your drawing, some works well, some less, some things only leave traces... and then, theres some "own element" in everything which happens to come through whereever it wants.
this whole thing just happens to evolve into something one might recognize... but there is no point at which to say "now i have learned enough generic basics, lets go down my own style route"

This Robert Henri quote has been mentioned a few times here and I finally tracked it down:
"Don't worry about your originality. You couldn't get rid of it even if you wanted to. It will stick with you and show up for better or worse in spite of all you or anyone else can do."

yeah, so just chill, draw and paint, it will come.
all your inspiration and influences will come together, along with your own touch, which creates your "style"
