    Boseface's Sketchbook

Size: 39.1 KBHi guys. I'm an Industrial Design student in my second year at RIT. I've always loved drawing and its an important part of communicating ideas as an industrial designer. I am trying to get better at quickly capturing ideas with correct perspective and line quality. I used to do a lot of lengthy rendering but I've gone back to the basics and am now just trying to get better with simple pen and paper. I'm not really gunna filter out the bad sketches because I think those are pretty helpful to see especially for people looking to give feedback. Any criticism or encouragement is much appreciated!

Starting off with the first sketches of a little sketch book I recently finished. I have a lot more to post!

Welcome, these look really good so far! It's great you're not filtering the bad, the crummiest drawins are what help us grow. Keep em comin!

Thanks! I went to Thailand for a month at the beginning of summer with a couple friends just to explore the country. It's an amazing place. If it's your first time going your in for an epic time, and if you've been there before I'm really jealous that you get to go back! Either way have a good trip Also, checkin out your sketchbook!

You have a solid background and there are some great sketches
amongst the ones that you posted above. You have a good understanding
of shapes and perspective, judging from the animals in #11 and the room
is pretty ok from the post #8. My suggestion would be to draw as much as
you can, on daily basis, a bit from life, a bit from photo references and in
the end you can mix inbetween some drawings from imagination. You
have a nice start, so you just keep on going, never give up.

You are having some difficulties drawing the head, seems like you are going
too much sphere like and you have problems detecting the planes of the head.
    Try to think more like this when you are drawing a human head;

    link
Plus, try to search up for some ‘Vilppu” tutorials on the net.

Thanks for the tips man! I think when I draw faces I forget to look at them as 3D forms set in perspective and just go straight to the features and guess where they go. Didn't realize it till you said it so thanks again! Also, here's some more stuff from when I was in Thailand.

Switched to sharpie for a little while over the summer. I really like the strong lines and it forces me to be more confident with my marks.

Good Work! You are very smart to try and break down complex forms into simple shapes. I think you would benefit from eliminating perspective from your drawings at this point. Try drawing in "paraline", where the vanishing points are assumed to be so far away that the resulting perspective lines appear perfectly parallel. This helped me a lot, and it simplifies the learning process.

You have some nice sketches in here man. It's good that you "think in blocks" but also, try to do more loose gestures( do like 1~2 min. ones).Your organic stuff will look more alive and natural. It's great that you are drawing with pen, but don't let pen stuff constrain you ,just get more gestual and try to do stuff with only one line.It helped me a lot.
You lack value's studies, start doing more of those. Grab some b/w pictures do some thumbnails. Also: start rendering stuff out and try different mediums.
    Hope it helps,cheers!

Was messin around with photoshop painting some more. I did the truck by taking pieces of photos and using that for some texture and my color choices. I only put maybe half an hour into it, still has a lot of the pics showing through. The other one is just a digital painting that I may or may not finish.
