Damn Mike, those figure drawings are SICK! I'm loving watching your progress, really. Very inspiring. You've got a lot of drive, something that even the pros lack a lot of times. Keep it up man!
nice stuff, what more can i say ? hehe awesome updates since the last time!
sometime when you draw from your imagination the poses or the body are stretched. long and slim hehe
keep on rocking !

Good looking out on the latest batch! I like the wolverine-sketch!
Keep 'em coming!
you keep getting better and better. very cool stuff, bro. i especially like the refed poses.
Thanks for all the encouragement guys!
Capprotti - Hey Mike! Thanks man. Constantly trying to figure how to step it up a notch, y'know. Glad you enjoy watching.
Hurri - Hehe thanks. You didnt know thats how people really look? Nah I was looking back at a few sketches and yea I do that pretty badly sometimes. I had to laugh a little bit haha. Thanks for pointing that out I'll have to be more mindful of that.
dCept - Thanks.. seems like I might be getting back into my old posting habits. So more will be coming I hope.
Pat - Hey thanks dude. The poses are from a book called "The Figure in Motion" .. its pretty filled with some sweet dynamic stuff. I got it as hand me down from my grandpa but I think I saw at borders once.
Did some paints today, tried to not use opacity that much felt a lot like using acrylics that way.
First a quickie marker sort of approach on this guy.
Just dropping off my TD entry since there all up now. Been working on this for the past week. I'm not sure what you call this idea, I think they are called continuous narratives.. its supposed to be comic-esque without the panels, all set in one scene. I think I might've screwed myself by making something so wide..
Heres a larger version -
And a short description -
"It is believed that a young boy and girl chanced upon
the gate and not knowing what it was decided to go
inside. They journeyed deep and were caught by the
Demon King's minions and brought before him. The
Demon King asked them to open the gate for him, for it
could only be opened by mortals, but the children
refused. So the Demon King took up the girl and made
himself a mortal Demon Prince. Years passed and when
the young prince was ready, the King granted him
leadership of his army and commanded the young man to
go forth and unleash hell upon the Earth."

You've loosened up you lines!! Way to go! Your latest work is a big jump in the right direction, man!
Keep 'em coming!
Hey dCept, thanks man! Yeah sometimes I am going a little looser these days but, sometimes it feels like its tighter. Mentler wrote a response to someone here (a month or two ago) that really made me pay attention to everything my lines are doing. So I feel like I'm paying more attention and getting more out of my line which makes it feel kind of tight mentally but then it ends up kind of loose anyways which is a good thing.
Alright here's some stuff from the past couple of months that I think are at the end of their lives for now. May/may not go back and work on them.
And here's something from the past week, feel like a hit a new mark with this one.. realized a bunch of stuff doing these studies.
good job. i see major progression .
The Sept. 1st updates are some of my favs or the thread, man. Great lines and looks really fun and fluid! You're making some nice strides, just keep up the work. Keep up the studies, anatomy and such and drawing from life. You're learning. It just takes osme time. Keep building up! Drawing! It does a sketchbook good!
Osgoon - Thanks man! I'm trying
Zebz - Yeah I like those too, some of them at least. I had a realization about making form with line that day.. one of those days you cant stop drawing just because you want to see where you can take some new ideas. I'm trying to keep it up as much as I can.. f'n work is killing me lately. Thanks for the encouragement bro.
Jens - Yeah I figure if I make myself fill the space than one day it will force me to really consider the composition before I start going crazy building up whatever forms I can all over the place. About the lines.. I know what you're saying .. I'm actually sort of frustrated with digital line work lately because I have so much more control with a pencil or pen in that respect. Really I just need to go back over them with more confident lines on a second layer or something.. Thanks for the crit man, much appreciated.
Tried to finish this one, maybe will add more around it later. I liked it better flipped.
your pencils keep inproving man... the sky gazing piece is my favorite... i dont know how i missed it before.
LOTR, Halo, Heroes Sketchcards from Topps
hell ya man big jumps excited to see waht you been working on man ! looking good !
oh nose i think avage nose is like 1.5 eyes long or there abouts some of them lookin a little long ... but every ting working good man starting aug 31 is takeing a real real nice turn !
yo mike, it's been awhile since I poked my head in here. It's nice to see cool stuff going on, you're rendering has gotten a LOT more refined these past months.... as has your sense of form and volumne. Nice composition on 417-sitting.jpg
keep it up dude!
oh, 413-figure study.. that one looks really nice. The way you cut the shading to white makes it look much more of a photoquality... you might wanna tinker with that in your other renderings too?
Hey man, this is good stuff all around, but the work in Post #226 caught my eye. There seems to be something lost in the translation from lineart to modeled forms. Your values seem consistently too dark, even in your painter work. You could try suggesting more with the linework, before you delve into shading right away.
The work in that post stands out to me as having the most potential, seeing as how it hasn't already been overdone with dark shading. Your shading is generally accurate, but just overall too dark, IMO.
Just a thought.

Dns - Hey thanks man, glad you like it.. Even though its rough I liked that one too.
Liam - Good spots on the nose! I like em big man what can I say Nah, thanks for that man I hadn't really noticed. Real good talking to you the other night.
Fat Kid - Yeah man, I been working on it for awhile now.. CA is the place!! I wouldnt know jack if it wasnt for all of the helpful people around. I'll try and make some more linework soon.
Joe - Hey man thanks for dropping by! Thats a good suggestion on the values.. I think it sort of goes hand in hand with Paul's crit. I sort of tried that a little with the portrait in this update.
Paul - Dude your crit is spot on, it took me a few reads to really absorb but yeah I tend to do that A LOT, I noticed. Thanks for that man.. will try and avoid this for sure.
Filled up this one and made a portrait.. I think they still need more love but I think I am just done looking at them for now.
More studies soon!!!!!
I've walked through your thread and I really like the things you are creating, keep on doing your stuff
Wow. I seem to have joined the SSG of "people who have had sketchbooks on CA.org for way too long to just be joining SSG now."
Your stuff is way above the level of what you've started with. It's pretty jaw dropping when I consider the timeframe.
I'd love to see your pencil sketches a little more. In many of them the value range is a little limited, and it limits what you can say about the form. You seem to nail it much more in the digital stuff, and that may be because of the tool.
Keep up the great work!
There is some really great progress goin on here, I especially like your damn loose lines, I wish I could do that
OKay there is something fucking strange goin on here: I used 2 different links to get to your sketchbook. If I follow the first link, oyur sketchbook has 25 Pages, if I use the 2nd link your sketchbook has onyl 5 pages. Holy shit I must be really tired
[EDIT no. 2]
okay I have found the problem
