    Pictures by the Overlord >:|

    Hello Friends!

Thanks for stopping by, I've decided to start this sketchbook for a few reasons.

    1. It might motivate me to draw even more than I do now.
    2. I would love to get some helpful feedback.
    3. I've been reading lots of art books, so I'm hoping that in time, I may be able to drop a wisdom bomb or two that might help others improve as well.
    4. It's super fun to draw

I invite comments of all types, hopefully I can find the time to respond to everyone (if anyone) who stops by to say hi.

    Keep drawing,

    The Overlord

    ------------------------------------------------

I'm cringing as I post this... It's the first... picture (if you can call it that) that I did when I decided to learn how to draw.
It stands as a reminder of how far I've come, and how far I have left to go. It was drawn on - 11th Feb 2013

6 months have passed since I drew that horrible thing, I'll post a couple more current images, and from this point on, I'll try to post new material every couple of days

I recently returned from a holiday in Vietnam, this is a study of a church in Saigon.
More studies to follow, I have plenty of photos to choose from

    Thanks GenomeKilla,

This one is for you for being the first to comment on my sketchbook

A sketch I did during lunch time.
I really struggle with lower body armor design, it always looks like an afterthought, any hints people?

Looking at different lighting conditions of the face.
I'll probably flesh out the values and finish these some time.

At the moment I can't really draw anything complicated in this way, only things made of blocky shapes, so I'm setting myself a challenge, I can't draw anything else until I've finished 50 perspective studies O_O

Great start for an epic sketchbook which will about to grow into something
marvelous and fascinating. You are doing all kind of studies, but I have
a feeling (I might be wrong however), that you are jumping into too
complicated and advanced designs too early, with a lack of knowledge
of basic things. I would suggest for you to go back to basics, like drawing
simple things from life and from photo references. Simple things I mean
like spheres, boxes, cylinders, simple objects from life that surrounds you,
try to focus on values, light and shadows. You have some excellent results
above, you are improving for sure, you just need to keep on going this way.
Good luck in your further artistic adventures.

LtPlissken - Thanks for the input, I'll take your advice and grind down some more still life studies.

I was planning on only drawing 3D studies for a while, but the EOW topic, Pagoda, looked like fun, especially considering that I just returned from Vietnam, plenty of pagodas there.
This will be a really quick one, not going to invest too much time into it. Probably going with 3.

I finished off the Pagoda EOW entry, I was a bit lazy with it because I had heaps of other stuff to do, but I like the colours.

This is my Tomb of Horrors EOW that I didn't have time to finish.
Maybe I'll tidy it up some time, but I want to give the android factory a shot.

Just wow, your environments are insane. And whilst scrolling down the page I saw you improved your character drawings alot. Not sure if you ever want to do anything with your drawing skill or how old you are but you defenitely SHOULD!

Thanks Dennis, I hit 28 this year and realized that I kind of don't like my job... That's why I've been drawing so much, I'm furiously saving money to go to FZD school in about 2 years and study concept art, so thanks for the vote of confidence, it really helps with the motivation

I've been researching heaps of history lately and have become kind of obsessed with medieval and ancient era conquest and politics.
I did some image searches of ancient armour and decided to do some thumbnails of 50% historical and 50% fictional armour sets based on different cultures from around the world.

@Mikus - It's good to know that I'm not the only one who finishes an FZD video thinking "this concept art thing is a piece of cake", before getting a nice big dose of reality after opening photoshop :p

@Leoz - Thanks Leoz, now I just have to figure out how to make the final piece look as good as the thumbnails I have a tendency to make things look stiff after adding detail.

Just a couple pieces I have done recently, one was an EOW and the other was a speed painting that I did of a flying turtle, it took me about an hour and a half.
