Sketches, comics, painting and other attempts.

    Hi everyone!

I'm a 22 girl from Greece, I like to make comics and I really want to improve my art skills in general - Any type of feedback is very welcome!
I'm really excited to be joining the forums. Everything I've seen on here is so inspiring *-*

Here are some of the things that I've made recently:

A couple of pages from my webcomic, Fruit Jacket (possibly my favorites)

And something I started after looking through many CA sketchbooks and feeling like going back to the basics of painting

This is still a WIP, I have an actual lemon on my CD player and you can see where I stopped the painting on the first and second days. I'm planning to continue working on it and post updates.

I found this helpful head tutorial on someone else's thread and started sketching as I watched it a couple of times.

An update on the lemon. Have to admit that I'm not giving it as much time as I wanted. But I want to paint it in the night, to have consistent light, and for the past two days I've just felt too sleepy. I'm working on it, though, and will hopefully finish it soon.

I haven't worked on something realistic for a while, and I'm not entirely sure if I know how to do that, but I want to give it enough time and make it look as good as possible.

Since this is my sketchbook, I thought I'd share the sketch, too.

I sketched this after I first signed up for CA, being really inspired to try new things

Sketching from this ref. The head is not meant to be part of the picture, heh, I just sketched it before deciding to put a whole woman there on the same page with her foot almost touching it.

Ugh I have that problem a lot as well. It helps if you put it in a cardboard box and then cut a hole for you to see through (or just leave one side open) and cut another for your light to shine through if you're using a table lamp for the light source. There's still a little fluctuation because daylight can bounce off you and into the window you're looking through, but it's less noticeable.

Anyway, about your lemon - I think it's looking pretty awesome so far. The color looks spot on and there's a really nice texture emerging through your brushwork. My only crit at this point is watch your edges; the lemon is outlined in a really hard edge that makes it feel flat, like a picture of a lemon rather than a rounded, three-dimensional object. Keep up the good work!

I like the storyboards quite funny I think you will improve greatly if you follow your reference more closely even if it takes time also to improve your line do line exercises like drawing a straight line then drawing another line on top of the first one multiple times(like 8 times) the less lines visible at the end the better also do the same with random organic shapes(curved line). After you have the techniques down you can then improve your style ps get Andrew Loomis's("figure drawing for all it worth" awesome book) or any other good figure drawing books do your research.

dierat, thank you for commenting! You're right about the edges. I'm not entirely sure how to fix it but I'm working on it...

The ones on the right were drawn after I saw ProkoTv's Gesture videos, which I think really helped!

A month later but I'm still here!

Visual-flux I only saw your comment after my last post so I wanted to thank you for the comment and the tips! I've never heard of that inking exercise before, I have it in mind and will try it out some time. I started reading Loomis' Drawing the head and hands - of course I downloaded all his books and I'm planning to read them all eventually.

I started watching videos at Ctrl+Paint (love the site!) and I was inspired by one of them to start a new exercise. The point is to draw something you're struggling with, 100 times. I chose neck & shoulders because I seem to have an issue with the placement of the neck.

Here's the first 5 sketches! I'll be posting more.
