    Samarus learns to draw

    Hello everyone !

So it's my first time around here.
    I'm 23, male from france.

I've been drawing for a long time now, but never got into seriously. I used to draw everyday at school because I wanted to become an illustrator or work in the video game industry but I didn't have the mindset to work on it at the time, which I regret now.
A few months ago I dropped off school and moved to a new place. I wanted to start a new life to become what I've been dreaming of for so long.
That's why I'm here today: I want to learn how to draw like a boss.

I am really motivated as I have a lot of ideas I want to be able to express through means more accurate than words but I can't right now. I always see a lot of things but can't express them and it's really frustrating to be unable to make people see how great it is in my mind.
I see so many artists able to show people the great things they have in mind that I can't help but be willing to reach that level of skill. That's why I want to get better.
But, to be honest, I feel a bit lost as I've gathered a lot of books but I don't know what I should start with so I'll go with anatomy for now, as I have some troubles with proportions, muscles and faces (God I suck at faces, but not for long !)
I also need to learn colors.

Anyway, I'll try to post regularly here. I'll be drawing everyday for the months/years to come because I really want/need to get better at this.
Here's what I did today : 60 pose from posemaniacs. 60 second each. Then some studies and a few drawings from imagination. The last one is my first portrait ever, done with photoshop (ref is Charlize Theron).
Sorry, my scanner did a bad job, and it does not look really good at the moment, but I promise I'll get better !

I hope I was clear, I'm not good at all this stuff ^^
But thanks for your time ! I hope it will be worth it!

    Hello,
Couldn't post yesterday so I'll post everything here today.
Did some 60 sec poses and a few 30 sec but I still suck a lot.
Also some Bammes/ Vanderpoel studies. Bones, eyes and heads. I need to practice more.
I feel like I'm not working enough so i'll try to do more tomorrow.
I still have so many things to learn. I want to read all dem books at all to understand everything, but learning and practice takes a lot of time.
I'll be patient and stay motivated !
    I'll make it, I swear !

    Hey !

Done some stuff today, but I still feel like I'm not doing enough. It's hard but I must focus more.
Anyway, it seems like I finally mastered that damn scanner, so the pictures should look slightly better ( I hope).
I also move from 60 sec poses to 45 sec poses. I thought it would be more challenging.
So 60 45-sec poses, then some crappy studies from life, some faces from imagination and finally some Bammes studies, because Bammes is a pretty cool guy.
So, yeah, I really need to work harder. I think I'll practice skin tones tomorrow, as I really need to improve my colors.
    Yep, enjoy !

so go back over the blank bits with moar! This quanitity is a great start, if you keep up this level of commitment youll see progress fast. Don't forget to be mindful of what youre doing- a thousand people will only get you as far as you think

FootstepsBekcon : You're right, I'll fill the blank with some more studies !
Thanks for your support man I'm trying to understand everything as much as possible, but sometimes I grow impatient and I just wish I could understand it all at once : /
Anyway, Bammes and Vanderpoel are some pretty cool guys and I learn a lot thanks to them and I'm not going to stop now

So, today I took more time to understand the forms and the mechanics of what I was doing. Learning more about the bones and the muscles and the structure. It's like I'm discovering things that were right there but that I never saw before o_O It's weird but awesome at the same time !
Some 45sec poses. I like those more than the 60sec ones because I feel like I can get to the essential part of the pose without detailing to much (which I tend to do), eventhough I still have a LOT to learn.
Then I did some foot/leg studies from Bammes, and finally a few still life while watching E3.
I still have troubles when eyeballing stuff, which shows when I try to reproduce dem things on paper so I'll probably have to do more still life. Also i did some test with colors but damn ! So much work to do there !
But it's great to draw and understand all this stuff. I want to learn more everyday. I'll try to work a bit harder because I'd really like to work on a personnal project I've had in mind for quite a long time now. I think I'll try it in one year maybe, between studies. We'll see how it goes !

    Enjoy !

    Hello !
Nothing yesterday because of reasons, but I worked anyway.
Currently trying to figure out colors and lights. I've been messing around in photoshop since yesterday, trying to be productive and learning stuff.
I'll get back to anatomical studies tomorrow, but I'll add some color/landscape/movie studies.
So here's what I did yesterday and today. Colors, quick movie studies and a speed one from imagination. It looks awful and the movie studies look like they have been drawn by a 10 year old.
Which means that i need to work harder !

    Hey !

    Been looking other people's beginning.
It feels like everyone is just so much better than I am, like I am not progressing or something.
I don't know. Maybe I'm just very bad at drawing actually. But I'm not doing all this in vain. I'm pretty sure I'm learning stuff. I'm getting better at anatomy I think !
    Anyway, here's what I did today :
Some Bammes studies. Legs, feet and pelvis. And some tests with colors. Also a few quick movie studies. I'm still so bad at colors, it's awful. I know the theory, but when I try...
Well. Gotta keep practicing. I have a long way to go if I want to get better.

    Y4n : Thanks man !
Yeah, you're right, I should focus on getting better !
    Will do

    So here's what i did today :
    45 sec poses, as always.
Bammes again : I'm getting better at drawing feet I think. At least I understand how they work
Then some doodles for fun and some studies.
Finally a really quick movie study. Was getting tired so it's really messy but I think I'm getting slightly better with colors (or not ! )

    Enjoy !

I did some 45sec poses, very few studies, and some try with colors.
