I was wondering if anyone has any advice on whether or not having multiple art styles could work against a budding artist.
A friend pointed out to me that if didn't stick to a a style,I would not be able to succeed in attracting a following. He asked me to figure out who I am as an artist.
I would like to go further into comics. My styles vary from chibi like for a younger audience, to darker themes and complicated plots for older readers. The idea of using only one style seems restrictive. I enjoy being free to create a style that fits the tone of a story. I don't know if this would work against me in 'getting known'or not.
Eventually you'll probably discover where your interests and your audience's interests intersect. That will most likely become your public style, but that hardly means that that is ALL that you'll ever do. Most artists do some kind of experimental, personal work where they can. It's really hard to attract a following if you quit art due to being bored.
