Books with an overview of the fundamentals?

Hello all, I'm fairly new to this, but I am looking for some books with a strong overview of the fundamentals of art. That is, I am wondering if there are any highly regarded texts out there, as I'd be a lot more willing to go out and buy a book if I know that it's going to be good.

Basically I'm trying to get good in all areas, and I want a text that has a more logical progression in building up on the more general fundamental skills.

this is just my personal list of things I personally found useful

Scott robertson is writing 3 books on Fundamentals coming out in fall 2013. He founded the entertainment design major at art center and I think he is great for fundamentals He also has gnomon dvds if which presents the information logically Basic form building is the first one It covers the absolute BASICs like it starts with how to make a straight line. it is like the videos on his channel but longer and with a singular focus

    my personal favorites
    "framed ink" Design studios press
"Dynamic life drawing for animators" Mike Mattesi
I have heard Loomis books are popular for illustration and fine art.
For perspective and anatomy those depend on your preference and how far one plans to take their studies
    on architecture
101 things I learned in architecture school
form, space, and order are both interesting reads on architecture
