LunederArt Sketchbook - The Fantastic And Odd Contained

This is not the first sketchbook I have made on here but it will be the first time I will be able to put time into one now that I have finished school and got my degree. I think my last sketchbook on here was close to two years ago which is why I am making a new one.

I will be using this sketchbook to experiment a lot as well as display my studies.

sketch I did playing around with perspective lines and using a rougher sketch look. I have been watching several videos on different ways to go about creature and character concepts, this is me applying what I see on those videos.

Not as refined as I normally do but the loose style has some interesting prospects.

Got the idea from one of Feng Zhu's videos. The idea is not to spend a lot of time on refining and just let the flaws do a lot of the work.

still got a long ways to go until i think this style use able in my freelance work. I am getting the idea from Feng Zhu's Zombie Knights which is to leave the lines intact rather then going for a fully finished piece.

Your painting is phenomenal! Do you also paint on canvas or mainly photoshop?

Practicing industrial design which I have did very little of while I have been freelancing.

The design sucks since my mental library needs to build references and experience.

Trying out using a 3D armature I found in blender to set poses for my character designs.

Pros: This method allows me to worry more about the design and get some good rhythm/flow into the design that not only makes the design look better but a lot more natural. Also with the use of the armature I can get some advanced perspective and dynamics to the pose.

Cons: The main con I can see is that if I am not careful I may make the perspective too extreme for use in sketches and lineart where it is harder to show distance without some kind of shading or fading. You can see this problem in the far foot of the character.

Future Ideas: I think in later designs I will normalize the pose since I am mainly doing concept art where the clients want to see the design rather than something dynamic. If I do make something Dynamic in the future it will have to be a full illustration or something intense to make full use of the extreme perspective and dynamics of the pose.

Feel free to give me some ideas on how to better make use of the armature or some things I should pay attention to for future designs.

As before I am using a 3D armature to set the pose but this time I turned off the perspective fish eye effect in blender and did most of that manually. I am also trying out different shading methods, this method isn't over the top with the shading and I think I could even put color behind it and over it just fine.

Tried coloring the previous sketch, it handles color pretty well. The one thing I will have to keep in mind if I do this again is the eyes, I made the irises too big and lack some of the outer features around the eye to help the facial render.

I tend to take a lot of breaks while working on my commissions and personal art so recently I started to do these quick super rough warm up sketches to get my mind back into creative thinking after each break.

They are bit older than from when I posted but most of the nudes can be found here http://www.deviantart.com/resources/...en/femalenude/ this is the section of DA where images meant for study purposes are posted and many of the randomized nude study sites are pulling their images from this section. The animals and other objects are from the other categories of the stock images section http://www.deviantart.com/resources/stockart/ (model is where the nudes or even clothed people images come from and is a popular place to find references for character art in general).

I had to sketch the back side of this guy after sketching the front since he has a good build to learn off of.
