12 maps of a Game of Thrones, created for the Lands of Ice and Fire map folio

In 2012 I was commissioned to illustrate the official maps of Westeros and Essos for the world of Game of Thrones. Each map is 3 feet by 2 feet in size, 72 square feet of maps in total, and they're sold as a 12 map folio called the Lands of Ice and Fire.

There's a bunch of articles on my site about the process behind the maps, as well as some detail shots. The maps are all George RR Martin, 2012, used with permission

Warning the last map contains spoilers as it shows the character journeys up to the end of A Dance With Dragons.

Warning - this contains spoilers as it details all the character routes to the end of A Dance With Dragons.

That is a heck of a lot of work.

I didn't think it was possible to be called an artist when you have nothing to say. It's like being a writer who publishes individual words as books and expects to be praised for it.

@Care: It's there - check up and right from the desolation of Valyria on the map of Slaver's Bay. There's a big city at the mouth of the Rhoyne - that's Volantis. There's a detail of the city here.

@Black Spot: Yep, this was a beast of a commission. It was a bit of a dream come true, but those cities were daunting.

wow awesome! I am currently working on maps and man they are a pain! Thanks for posting the tutorials on your site that will help a lot though I have been trying the cartographers guild as well...but the problem there seems to be a very very slow server
