    Post Chelsea's Sketch Dump

I'm 14 years old and joined this site recently! After lurking the forums for awhile, I decided to actually post something! :)
I've wanted to join an art community for awhile now, and this is an awesome one from what I've seen.

I'm not really sure on how to improve, but I hope you guys could help with that! I've been really trying to get out of the anime style recently.

Welcome to the sketchbook forum!! The gesture and figure drawings are certainly good and you draw hands really well.
However, you're not really out of that "anime" style yet, like you say you're trying. I suppose it's a process though. Try to really observe people's faces for the right proportions and such... You're actually already doing this in a number of sketches, but there's still a lot of pointy chins going on. I think the best way to go about it is to observe the variety in people. There are as many faces on this planet as there are people, go out and draw them =)!
    Keep up the good work!

It will take time to get out of certain modes. I use to draw comic book characters, and it took me quite a while to not draw someone with muscles bigger than their heads. Keep it up!

I drew a bunch of faces on google! I think I improved on the less-anime style. Hopefully you recognize some of them, being Blake Lively and Emma Stone, the others although don't look much like the reference pictures haha The bottom two on the second picture were drawn with no reference. Yaayayyayyayayay c:

Amphsi, thank you so much! I really paid attention to the pointy chins part (except for the people who actually did have pointy chins) when I drew these. Thank you once again
    chevy28360, ahaha thank you!

I drew a bunch of faces last night without references, so a lot of them looked up very cartoon-ish or just really... wonky

I'm trying realistic painting on one layer but asjdfk;asdjf idk, I can't haha specially not without reference :/

It's a sketch that I kinda gave up on. It's not anime style but it's not realistic either so i'm kinda confused as to what it is. I really want to learn realism then branch off into a stylistic kind of drawing soon though.
Can anyone help me with this? Haha
The painting is what's the hardest for me right now, I have no idea how to check values and when I do paint over it, it looks really different from the original lineart (this looks a lot different from before!)
Please please critique, thank you very much

Recent drawings. I still don't know how to improve. I think I'll go try some more Loomis stuff...

I'm having troubles with the uploader (not really troubles, but more like, I don't know how to use it haha) so I'll talk about it below here. Haha.

    1. I wanted to draw a character who had some sort of powers. She was more like a fire type witch in my head, but I gave up trying to do the fire and the design was very bad. I didn't know how to make her look good without the typical skin-showing costumes so I tried making her look more casual and street-like, I guess. I don't like the design but hopefully I improved with the face!
    2. The picture was out of order. That was part 2 of drawing from reference pictures. I drew them from the free H&M magazines you get when you walk to the door, haha.
    3. Zoom in on the face.
    4. At first, this was supposed to be just an angel posing and looking all divine. I randomly added in a baby in her arms, then changed her expression to add some type of story in there, hahaa. The colour choices I feel are pretty bland, and when I try to make them more saturated they end up looking quite off. I wanted it to look somewhat like Alessandro Taini's or Algenpfleger's drawings of angels but I don't see it.
    5. Zoom in on the angel girl's face. Another problem I have aside from bad colour choices (probably need to study colour theory?) is how differently the face looks after I paint it.
    6. A face. I don't know if it looks correct yet, specially the eye and of course the colouring.
7/8. I tried to enter the teen challenge but school came back and I'm getting busy again. I tried to make it look like a grafitti'd ghost town (theme is ghost town) and was inspired from Vancouver's Gastown. Perspective looks wrong I think. Specially the car and the statue.
    9. Tried drawing hair from WeiWork's tutorial on youtube with coloured pencils.
    10. Copied from the H&M catalogue.
    11. Random page without references. It's not as good as I'd like it to be so I gotta draw draw draw!!

Hey nice work!^^ and only 14! you wouldve kicked my 14 year old ass to kingdom come lol! I suggest that you might want to work on perspective and the basic forms. It seems boring but really, its the quickest way to improve and get better. Anyhow, you're doing great and give it 2 or 3 more years you'll be awesome! keep on drawing!^^

First two are ink doodles for my school's fine arts night The theme is construction and we drew greek desigsn on traffic cones to look like vases. I was thinking of ideas. In the end, I went with none of them but I did like it. hahaha

I drew Elsa while I watched Frozen after my sister bought it to watch at home!
I don't think the shadows made sense... I don't know how to fix it though haha. Guess I need to draw more!

I still can't get over how well you are doing. Those gesture drawings and poses. Have you drawn them from life. Photos or memory?

The gestures from the beginning are from pixelovely. I've seldom drawn from life, though I hear It's one of the best choices you can make, haha! A lot of them are from imagination, and others I do with the help of references from google or from pictures I take myself!
    Thank you so much!

Hi there, nice studies you got there! I like that you have to do those pillars! For your gestures I suggest trying some flour sacks! look them up. It is actually poses without limbs
