Its kinda one of those pieces up to interpretation. There isn't really anything we can critique because this piece is obviously more cerebral than what we are doing here.

We can't really go into anatomy because it obviously isn't about that, or lighting because it isn't about that, or realistically depicting some lady.

I like her hands! Hope that makes you happy a little bit.

I know its not concept art. I am more concern about the principles of design for this one. Or discussion regarding elements of design. But thanks anyway

Despite what most would probably say, I like your brushwork. Your markmaking is very expressive. If you refined your skills more, your work could remind people of van gogh or gauguin. Two painters that aren't exactly looked up to by academic artists but their work is just as powerful in its own way.

Regardless if you want to use reference or not, it will help your painting. Thats a fact. Get reference for the figure, the hands, the face, what tears look like, what candles look like. Get reference for the lighting and all the church imagery. Reference. EVERYTHING.

I think your work is chaotic--now if you were going for planned chaos, thats one thing. But images are usually based around some sort of structure and design. Get a value structure and a color scheme going for your painting. Use thumbnails to plan the composition. If you're going for self expression, you've nailed it and theres nothing more you need to do with this piece. But if youre going for something representational and something you want to get some brownie points for, it'll be to your advantage to scrap this painting (but keep the concept!) and work on it again using the suggestions of everyone in this forum. After you get something basic we can work with, then you'll get some more advanced critiques.

    good luck!
