    Concept Art

Hi there. I'm glad you came here to see my work. From now on, I'll be posting all finished concept art work here in this thread. I hope you like these ones posted so far. Criticism is welcome, as well as questions. Enjoy and see you around!

    (for hi-res images visit http://nenadgojkovic.deviantart.com/gallery/)

p.s. monitor, crate and the plant pot were done in 3PP, by hand, no use of 3D at all

    Thanks

    Nenad

Wow, ovi radovi i weapon concepti izgledaju fenomenalno. Profesionalno u stvari, svaka cast.
Jesu ovo 3D renderi? U svakom slucaju deluju extra extra.

Jel vredi? Nadam se da ces ostati i ovde, meni nije lose, uglavnom
ovde dobio najvise feedbackova, a standalone blogovi i stvari ti nece ljudi bas puno posecivati.

I think I fixed the problem for good. Posting your works on many sites is a good thing I guess, the more people see your stuff, more feedback you'll get and more clear you are what to do. As for serbian people, you would be surprised how many serbians do this stuff, for living by other, so I'm sure there are a lot of them here, but since most use nicknames not real names (like me :-)) it's hard to find them. Above Mateja I can only think of Marko Djurdjevic, the boss of six more vodka of Serbian descent. I guess that could count hehe...

    Hi Nenad,

Wow! Visual information overload, this post kept me busy for a while.
Amazing work, both in terms of design and presentation, my personal favourite is the CONSAI weapon.

Thanks for sharing and can't wait to see more updates.

Thanks Mothman, it's nice hear that. Consai is really old, one of the first weapon designs I did so, glad you like it. Thanks again and all the best!

    Amazing concepts!
I had to immediately think of District 9 (great movie), especially the "Contact Vesario" looks crazy.
As has been mention already, your awesome paintings are further enhanced by your truly unique ideas and concepts.
I really hope to see some of them in future movies and/or games. Keep up the great work!

PS.: The only critic I can give, and this is purely because I am a graphic design student, is to not distort the fonts, as it screws
with the proportions and makes them harder to read. Other then that I think your font choices go very well with your futuristic looking weapons.
But this is conceptart.org and not concepttypography.org so I will shut up now

Yeah, love the D9 as well. Glad you like the CV, it's one of my own favorite:-). I'm living for the day when I'll be looking at my own weapon or whatever other design in front of me, in a movie or a video game. It would be a dream come true. As for the fonts, haha, yeah, I hear you. I distorted them to give them a bit cooler look since at that time I had very little cool custom fonts. Will use much more custom ones in the future definitely. Thanks again for the kind words. All the best!

    GOG

Military truck (medium size) linework done in precise 2PP. I wish I did a full size render but, there was no time for that so I did a small render preview just so people can have an idea what it would actually look like. Hope you'll like it:-)

Well, I've gotta say, these are by far some of the best weapon concepts I've seen, and I have seen a lot.

This sound a bit ass licking, but you sir have made my day

    Hey Nanad,

Great update, its evident that a lot of time, effort and thought go into your designs and thats what makes them so enjoyable to view.

This looks like a futuristic low loader variation of the A-Team van!

On a more serious note its another solid, believable and very cool looking design.

Out of interest, how much time goes into the planning/research phase of a design like this?

    Cheers.

Thanks for the kind words guys :-) Mothman, as for the planning, well, as most first I deeply research the internet for truck designs, I try to find as many truck designs out there as possible (same goes with any design). More or less I saw a great deal of them while doing the first one. Concept trucks, real trucks of all kind, whatever I can find. The point of course is to see what others do and what exists out there and try to come up with something unique and original if possible. This usually takes several hours, but now less as I've seen most of it with first design.

But, as I do designs by photobashing (I don't use thumbnails at all when doing personal work), because by that technique I get the most and weirdest happy accidents, I don't really have to worry that I'll come up with something cool and more or less unique. Photobashing technique guarantees that in a way. Endless possibilities lie in there, while doing design by hand/manually from start to finish is quite limiting, by your visual library, brushes and shapes you got used to and similar. But, I photobash only in the early phase of design, just to find that cool looking base (having what I've already seen out there somehow always in mind), which usually takes 2 days or so. The further iterations and detailing are done by me so to speak, by hand, but, following the existing design language set by the base of course. The purpose of the vehicle is decided somewhere in the middle.

If I have in mind a certain style for the vehicle at the very beginning, e.g a baroque/steampunk style vehicle (which I do for the one of the upcoming trucks), I'll use baroque based images for photobash of course.

This early phase of photobashing is the most important and most enjoyable one, and I don't like rushing with it. I'll play around with it for days if I want, because, it's all based on happy accidents, sometimes simple copying and pasting of a section in the wrong area gives me a whole new and much cooler look which I can't resist and major iteration occurs. In the end, there aren't much rules here, it's quite chaotic design process and that's why I like it so much. Cheers!:-)

Thanks for the detailed reply, its a great insight into your process.

Often the design process isnt spoken about and we just see these cool designs not realising how much work goes into the research and design phase of the images creation.

I agree with being creatively limited when generating ideas solely by hand and from memory, but in my case I try to use reference (not as often as I should) to influence my images and help create a more interesting and believable design. Though photobashing would greatly increase the amount of designs that could be produced in a set amount of time. I'll have to try out this technique as an alternative to traditional thumbnailing, it sounds interesting.

Also I understand how happy accidents would happen more often with your technique, which would ultimately produce fresh designs that are out of the ordinary. I think this would help me out personally as I tend to get too comfortable with certain ideas, processes and brushes etc.

I think its always a good idea to have multiple creative processes and this sounds like a great one to learn as its so different to how I work, but obviously produces great results.

    Thanks Nenad.
