Yeah, I, Robot was pretty cool. A fun summer movie and all that. I liked a lot of the themes in it, I wonder what it would have been like had they played it more as a thriller, about whether the detective was overly paranoid and the whole robot conspiracy was more elusive. But, its a big Will Smith summer movie, worth the DVD buy later on if I have the money to spend.

Plus the robots aesthetic reminded me a lot of apple computers, just thought that was kind of funny.

*Do you think they would have banned the internet to keep the libraries open?*

Here are some of the production paintings by Stephan Martiniere:

Not sure if the actual film ended up looking like this. Haven't seen it yet.

I don't like the robot designs, they sold out to the whole I-mac transparency thing. That's so 2 years ago. I much prefer the 'metal with scraped off paint' design. Absolutely no rubber faces.
I read most of Asimov's sci-fi stories. They're quite slow, and he pretty much skips the action in favour of descriptions how rayguns work and stuff like that. I don't recall any action in this particular story. There's just some guy interviewing the robot and they outsmart it. End. When watching the trailers it looked to me that they had raped the story Hollywood style.

...so it was a good movie after all?

Prom, all the other bots in the movie were all industrial style... urban scratches, pistons, and such. You'd prolly dig 'em.

But yea, they pretty much raped and sodomized poor Asimov in his grave. The movie was really a big-budget blaxploitation flick... But we all knew it was commin' so it's worth seeing for the nice effects and such.

After seeing a certain clip on a trailer and then talking to a friend about the movie, I discovered a fairly big twist in the movie--my friend simply spoke affirmitive when I sort of thought out loud of the trailer. I won't go into anymore details for fear or ruining the movie though...

I just got back from seeing this flic, and I thought it was friggin awesome!!! I really enjoyed the whole movie, the only part that kinda bugged me was the car scene when he spun in circles… A little overboard… My favorite part was the demobot scene, bad ass... Anyway, I Robot gets two thumbs up from Spacemanchuck!
