    Non-photo references

    How many of you use other artist's work as references as well as photos from real life (while you're working)?

    For example,

    Say I'm trying to create a new mech design. I might grab some industrial/mechanical reference photos for technical purposes, and then also grab a few sketches/paintings from other artists with similar subjects for aesthetics purposes.

    Done it before with hardware that I didn't have a complete grasp on. Helps to visualize/improve. Just keep it relatively limited in scope to prevent ostracization and worse.
