looking at how my day is shaping up, I think this is as far as I'm getting before the deadline. Nicole, Taffyjones and Lilybet, great entries- I agree with taffy, hope there's a flood of entries before the deadline.

    Best of luck everyone!

EDIT: Moderator, I realized this morning that I didn't quite follow the guidelines on this, having really only posted one WIP in the WIP thread (my second WIP remained my final entry, since I didn't make any real progress after that). If you'd like, I'll withdraw my entry, or simply don't include it in the final poll- I'll abide by whatever decision you make.

Sorry about the delay in getting the poll up, I've been busy and forgot about this, and Aksel was on vacation. He is back now, so should be posting the new topic shortly.

Great work everyone. My vote went to Grumbleputty (no, not just because of the Arsenal T-shirt!)

Lilybet – This is a really strong illustration, bold colours, very dynamic and interesting composition. I think it’ll look cool as a t-shirt print or book cover. I am just wondering if you could’ve added a few more bits to it. I guess you were going with a stylised vision and maybe that would be compromised, but maybe darker shadows, some footprints and some more details could make it stronger. Check out Olly Moss for some cool alternative film posters (if you’ve not already seen them)

NicoleWG – Great work. I especially like the traditional medium choice. Did you use coloured pencils? I think the drapery is really well done and your main character has an interesting pose. The values could be lots stronger and really give it depth and focus, also using shadows behind Alice and next to the curtains would help frame the image. I hope you do more as it’s a great illustration and has lots of potential. I did a quick paintover to show you what I mean with the values (I apologise if you mind).

Taffyjones – This is really very pretty. Looks like water colours. This has very interesting negative space, using the branches and lighting and no awkward tangents. This is my second favourite, I just think Alice could be clearer but it’s difficult with the shadows. The rabbit is cool.

Grumbleputty – I voted for this because it has an interesting, and dynamic pose, the lighting is awesome and I like the modern setting… ok, so it’s just a phone, but still helps to sell it. Her right hand is really well drawn too. The only thing I would point out, would be that the light source could be much further down the hole and not be so dominant.

NicMarr – I think the lighting in your second wip is much more dramatic than your final. The composition feels slightly out of balance, squashed vertically, but I can see what you are trying to do. It is a good illustration and is an interesting moment to choose. Like you said more time would’ve helped on your final. Here is a tutorial on values and forms, I found it really useful, although come nowhere near with my own understanding and use, but, it might help you when constructing these compositions.

I hope my comments are ok, not trying to be clever or anything, just some feedback on what my thoughts are. Keep up the good work and look forward to seeing what the next IOW is.
