    Do you think that college/education is really nesccisary to get into the art field?

    I feel that most of all art classes in college don't teach you anything technical, that you can't already learn by yourself through self exploration. yeah some art professors teach some neat concepts/different ideas but that can be learned by yourself or mingling in art forums such as this.
    you know, i'd think that a portfolio of your works is much much more important than a peice of paper saying that you graduated college and majored in a specific area?
    thoughts?
