Character of the Week #319
The Starbound Outlaw
Deadline - Sunday, March 3 10PM GMT
In the distant future, mankind has technologically advanced to the point where space travel is a common thing. This has opened up a whole new breed of outlaws, pirates, rebels, what ever you may call them. They all have the same thought in mind, self preservation. They do what they want to survive without considering the consequences, as long as it benefits them. Most of these outlaws are rough around the edges, have battered bodies from violent conflicts and hardened attitudes. It's survival of the fittest in space.
Design a space outlaw based on this future. Space travel is a common thing. One requirement for the design is to include a form of a visible cybernetic implant/enhancement.
- Must be human.
- Can be male or female
- Must Include cybernetic implant/enhancement
- Think about what this character is out for. Money? Power? Thrill?
- Think about the type of gear a person would need to survive in the environment of space.
- Finals must be posted in the finals thread before the deadline
- Final post must include the CHoW number and the artists username at the bottom of the image
- At least 3/4 of the character must be visible
- Sketches or rushed artwork will not be accepted into the poll
- At least two wips posted in the finals thread
- Background is optional
- Have fun!
Jasco was born on the generational ship Centauri Beta. The ship's
interception and long internment by the Ericoids has left Jasco with a
distrust of non-humans. He escaped the Centauri Beta and Ericoid space
with two dozen others in a makeshift mass-driver craft he constructed
himself. He arrived at the first human outpost as the sole survivor of
the trip, the others died from sickness and hunger. At first he was
greeted as a hero but news soon came out that he had survived through
cannibalism. To get out of public view Jasco took post as a cargo
runner and merchant space-mariner. During the Orion Arm conflict he
became a blockade runner and privateer. Jasco has been stealing ships
for the last 25 years and is currently indentured to the Black Sun
Triad after they organized a prison break to free him from a
Balac, The Space Space rebel.
Due to his incredible wealth and the large army of rebels he leads, there is no reason for Balac to fight his own battles - however his infamous lust for violence places him in the middle of many battles, wielding his hammer and cracking skulls.
Balac lost his right leg to an alien warlord, whos skull is now attached to Balacs armour.
"The damed alien bit my leg off! He got me, but I tore the bastards head off. Look at that." - Balac.
You're pretty sick, Balac.
This is Vala,
a future courier. Sort of a delivery system for other high paying criminals in the future.
Her cybernetic leg helps her get to places a normal person could not,
and her camera bot scouts the way ahead keeping her one step ahead of her pursuers.
Hello again Gang,
I don't have an elaborate story like the posts above so I'll leave that part to your own imagination. It's been a real blast doing this and looking forward to next week.
Shogo kagutsuchi was a bold yakuza with great ambitions. He wanted to take over his boss by doing him in , but he got betrayed and punished before he could do any harm. his arms were cut off as and the rest of his still living body was sold at a high price to a particularly cruel and inhuman cybernetic implant corporation for experimenting. But Shogo didn't want to end like that and after receiving basic implant docks he managed to escape using only his legs. He forced some technicians to install on him the highest grade military bionic arms , wich he used to lay waste to the factory he was held in.
Now he's out for revenge and plans on killing the people who betrayed him and finally, his boss. But that takes money, so he now works as an assassin for hire, eliminating targets that no one could legally touch.
heh, this was fun. It's not really on level with the great stuff people posted ,but it was a great exercise, and i definitely learned a thing or two!
great works everyone, you guys are really an inspiration!
still new to digital, please give harsh critiques! (maybe some encouragement too)
"can't you see i'm busy?"
" I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched c-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate" Blade runner

crits and comments welcome.
Al sortsa things wrong with this and went a bit overboard on the fx and texture crap but hey, it's something :p
Amazing work everyone, thanks for sharing!
heres my spacepirate(!) for this week, drawing was done by hand becouse i dont have a tablet atm, this slowed down my procces a lot and i wasnt able to explore all the options i wanted to try out. but taking that into account im still quite pleased with the restult. i used blue pencil and fineliners for the linework and i added some color in photoshop.
Job: jack of all (illegal) trades - but only if they don't go against her principles.
Special traits: reinforced skin; bionic leg
Favorite activity: training in zero gravity environments
Personal motto: Where the law can't reach, I shall bring justice.
[Media: watercolors + color pencils + photoshop background and effects]
30 minutes to get your finals in!
My "starbound outlaw"; changed his body so much for the sake of survival and covering each weakness that he could, that he now needs a mask to still feel human anymore. He survives by floating around in space, waiting for stray spaceships.
Phew made it. Had to skip out on the shading though, hope that's alright.
Here is my entry. Didn't have enough time to give the polish I wanted.
