Heres my take, It emits a luminescent fog which shines through and reveals illusions and magic
In the fairly far off future, a galatic war is ongoing between an alien force and humanity. Humanity is slowly losing ground and the war. In a distant mining colony, The Outcast Squad have been without communications and are the sole survivors on an increasingly brutal slugfest for control of the main city on the barren world.
Highly trained, and ready to fight, the marines are up against an especially deceptive alien force, able to use optical illusion technology and mirror imaging tech to dupe and confuse. Their solution lies in the Prometheus Generator. A powerful yet volatile technology that is used to counteract the aliens powerful and mystical abilities.
It contains a compound known as isotene trisophorous, a solid glowing material that is liquid at the planets air temp. This material is the key to being able to detect the alien abilities. However....
It needs to be heated, in order for a chemical reaction to take place that allows the compound to do its noble work. For this, they created this lantern: The Prometheus Generator.
It is highly explosive, flammable, a huge risk in the combat zone, yet must be protected at all costs, it allows numerous tactical advantages when up against the powerful alien foes.
It has a strap for 1 man carrying,
A quick release system to manually open the light rods,
Sensors, and HUD display
Dual firm grips for two man carrying operation
A generator for powering the lantern and revealing the alien threat.
Cooling fans and air ventilation units
As a result, Many marines must sacrifice their lives to protect this invaluable item and to ensure that they have a supply of this important chemical compound. The names of the fallen are etched into the armoured casing, a reminder of their gift, and the cost of freedom.
Sorry hope this is ok.

How about some critiques (I know I could use some)? Here's my thoughts on the other 2:
Blake-Rottinger-Art: great concept. I really like the look of the smoke of the open version but the closed version looks like a different style of smoke. The "diamond" looks a little rushed. It would be nice to have some more texture or detail. The perspective lines you have don't follow the perspective of the diamond.
Care: really nice style in your work. I don't see a lantern though. Some explanation would've been helpful. And I don't understand the relationship with your "lantern" to the silhouettes.
