    having trouble with windows 8

I just got a smart pc with windows 8. I'm having trouble installing software. If anybody has already dealt with this I'd greatly appreciate the help.

Paint tool sai: "please log on as administrator to install"
I have no idea what that means. I have the only account on my computer.

GIMP: "please obtain a different copy"
I downloaded it directly from gimp's site.

I solved the gimp issue on my own. It turned out there was a new update for windows 8. It wasn't even on the gimp site.

Is your an account an administrative account? The only thing I can think of is when you install Paint Tool Sai, right click and "Run as Administrator" or you can get one of the newest beta versions for Sai

Hell yeah it's working! Thank you Arshes.
Every time I tried to run it before my security thing was down, so the administrator option wasn't there.

No problem. If the New Start Windows is irritating you here are some alternatives.

    kewl.
Paint tool sai is great btw. Very intuitive.
Gimp on the other hand isn't taking my little wacom stylus seriously. I dug through some tuts to get it working right only to find it's too buggy for serious use.

Is this the latest GIMP? I know I had issues with it prior but didn't know if latest version fixed it.

AZ Drawing is a nice little inking program. http://sai.detstwo.com/forum/index.php/topic,597.0.html
Sketchbook Pro works rather well in Windows 8 too - I use it more since the device that has it is a tablet PC.

Yeah it's Gimp 2.84. I'm using an S Pen. So it's a different wacom driver. There's a bunch of skipping and pressure loss. It works a little, but not enough.

I've been giving sb pro a go and I'm just not comfortable with it yet. I think sai has it outclassed on the comfort front.

Just downloaded AzPainter. It's okay, but I couldn't find any advantages to it. Maybe they are just written in Japanese.

The advantages I've had for Az Drawing is that it was easy to change a single layer to another color. Works great when you are figuring out different scenes, positions and need to color code them. AZ drawing is the inking one with some animation. Az Painter is...eh. The problem is the developer stopped working on them. I found AZ Drawing more useful.

Okay, you had me at animation. That's an important thing to have.
