DSG 1664: Creature • MIN.NINE PROFILE PICS REVEALING WALK OR RUN CYCLE OF ALIEN BEAST

    .

[ You'll have to begin with an interesting, but manageable, creature silhouette. ]

[ Avoid detail, unless it's dots indicating eye placement or something, and only worry about the communication of the broader forms -- that'll be complexity enough. ]

[ Key to your efforts will be looking at a bit of reference of actual animal walk cycles. Take a minute to find something in a web search, nab it, study it whilst enjoying your beverage of choice, and stumble in. ]

[ Once you know the basic look of your creature, you might wanna create a super simplified version of it. ]

[ Represent the major masses of your animal with basic shapes, and then the legs, arms, horns ...whatever... with lines. ]

[ Roughly establishing placement from frame-to-frame in this way should greatly accelerate your ability to visualize the creature in various states of motion. ]

    [ Here's a nice tut I found that might help you: Four-Legged Walk-cycle Guide. ]

[ Also: Some Google images. ]

[ Obviously the end result will essentially be animation stills, so you might even consider turning it into a small animated gif... ]

First animation and gif I've ever made. It was fun. I think I missed on a lot of things, but it's better than I expected.

Sorry, it's not an 'alien'. Couldn't resist doing a running werewolf. It was supposed to be a werewolf based off of Scott Prescott's awesome Innistrad wolves. Definitely not bulky and upright enough.

Yep, much practice is needed. Not sure if it could be considered alien though.

Really beautiful animation silentbrain! I can just stare at it forever, really love the details and the movement is hypnotizing.

Dcritelli, that's your first? That's really nice for your first time! Nice animation, he looks really cool.

Allright, first shot at animation! Took some figuring out and had to install a new version of photoshop.
I should be fixing that limp but I think I'll be doing another one instead. Love this topic!

First ever animation, it's crappy but it makes me want to do more of these!
