Thread: Fernando's Sketchbook
February 19th, 2013 #1
Hi, my name is Fernando Mendoza and this is my first post! I hope to share my art journey with you guys and hopefully even make some friends! For the first few posts I will be sharing all of my old work until I make it all the way to the present, as a way of showing my progress. If you want to find recent work, check my other sites in my signature.
For now I will share three recent drawings and then start posting my old work in batches. Sorry if they are so horrible and boring! Im also still trying to figure out how posting images works!
Reference by Tasastock Pura 1
Tools: Wooden 2B Pencil, Mechanical Pencil 2B, GIMP (to darken image with Levels)
Paper: Strathmore Drawing 300 Series (I dont like this paper)
Decided not to blend on this one. Drew with wooden 2B and then went over with MP 2B to make it darker and smoother. I like the roughness though
Tools: Mechanical Pencil 2B, GIMP (Darkened in Levels)
Paper: White Copy Paper
Just a simple study of my face that I tried making smoothish by hatching.
Reference: Soul 7 by neko-tin
Tools: MP HB & 2B on Copy Paper
I thought it looked cool so I had to draw it! Tried making it smooth by hatching and then crosshatching.

Love your current work. Great depth, proportions and values. Also it's always cool to look back. You came a long way lol...

Juniversal - Thanks! For right now I am drawing from reference and trying to learn as much as I can so that I can eventually be able to draw realistic things out of my head! I still have along way to go though!
Anyways, here is another batch of old drawings. These are from high school, 10th grade, which was from 2006-2007. I will upload the other half tomorrow, God willing. I hate how much time I have wasted! If only I would have drawn more rather than being lazy I could be way better today! Learn this lesson guys: Dont waste your talents!!! May God bless you!

Here is the second batch of drawings from 10th grade! Some Naruto and anime type stuff along with some original characters. Next time I aim to post stuff from 11th and 12th grade, maybe on Saturday? Anyways, the Pope officially abdicates on the 28th! How sad that I have not gotten a chance to draw him! So right now I feel like drawing him like crazy before the 28th! By God's grace I will start that tonight and post them on Tumblr if you care to see since I wont upload them here until I post all the older drawings first. May God bless you!

Those first couple graphite drawings were pretty interesting, there's a cleanliness to your work I dig.

Pavlov - Thanks! Yeah, I try to keep things clean and try not to mess up. Its kind of a problem though since it kind of holds back my creativity. My goal is to learn to kind of let loose and try new things, experiment and not be afraid to mess up. Keep watching for more though! God bless you!
So here are some linearts of things that were supposed to be original realisticish portraits. I never managed to finish any of these. The next upload should be better. God bless you!!!

ill_Buny - Thanks! The reason those portrait linearts are so clean and light is because I had erased them so that I could render them later but never actually got to doing that. I hope to really start training soon and sharing my training methods with others! For now I will continue to post my old stuff and get them out of the way now. God bless you!
Alright, so here are some head sketches that I drew on homework usually during class. Some Naruto stuff, some school mascot designs (Kofa Kings), etc.
Make sure to check out my other sites for recent stuff! God bless you!
