    Looking for some feedback

This is just a personal piece to get practice. I am looking to see what else I can add or alter to get the look to that finish line.

i think it is very well painting, maybe if you concentrated the light source even more it would be even better! could be cool to have the womanfishthing to be another color to pop it out of the background

I would add some tint of color to her eye and mouth possibly, a little too monochromatic right now. I would also remove the tongue or add lots of ridges, looks like a pebble right now.

You need to better differentiate the lit areas from the unlit areas. For the unlit areas, remove the texture and soften the shadows. Any are that's in shadow should almost look out of focus. Here's a quick paint-over to illustrate my point. It helps to give a more 3D appearance. I also threw in some additional light to pump up the contrast.

The type of fish I'm basing the head off is the angler fish, a deep sea variety, so there would be no actual light penetrating from above at her depth.

BUT...... For the sake of a cooler image I added some blood and I removed the blue "filter" layer I was using to obtain an underwater look (everything more monotone)

I changed the tongue our for a ridged mouth (this was my first idea, but the fish actually have this nasty bulging tongue-thing.)

Let me know what you think!

well, it does kind of leak storywize. it is hard to just predict that to be blood, you should incorporate som kind of half chewed fish or maybe some of the inside of a fish, also the teeths should be bloody from the killing

i also should mention that the mouth misses some fundamentals, like the gills, and a tounge. i did check up the angler fish and it seems that the have a big ass tongue. Also a good idea would be to at more teeths inside the mouth to keep the pray trapped.

here are some references, i know they arent from angler fishes but im pretty sure they have gills as well

I personally think the message isn't clear enough that its a fish head on a womans body, too much is covered up. Seems less like an effect and more like a censor.
